Democrat emphasizes criminal justice reform Post Staff MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm, first elected in 2006, announced Monday that he will seek a fourth term. A Democrat, Chisholm began two secret John Doe investigations into Gov. Scott Walker's associates and his 2012 recall cam- paign. The first probe resulted in six convictions of aides and the state Supreme Court stopped the second investigation last summer. In announcing his cam- paign, Chisholm empha- sized his criminal justice reform. "My pledge has been to do everything in my power to keep Milwaukee safe, and to reform the way our crim- inal justice system responds to the deep chal- lenges in our community," said Chisholm. "I have kept that promise by getting violent offenders off the streets, while also building a nationally recog- nized Community Prosecution pro- gram that works with citizens in neighborhoods to solve problems," Chisholm said in a state- ment. "District Attorney Chisholm has created spe- cialized teams within his office, and he's done so without utilizing more tax dollars. This has allowed Milwaukee to establish Treatment, Alternative, and Diversion programs, teams to prosecute Domestic Violence and sex- ually-motivated crimes, and to place prosecutors in communities throughout Milwaukee to better address neighborhood chal- lenges," said state Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa, D- Milwaukee, in a statement endorsing Chisholm's re- election. "Despite these impor- tant improvements, there is still work to do, and John Chisholm will continue to fight to make Milwaukee's criminal justice system more fair and effective for everyone." M i l w a u k e e ranked fifth in violent crime among cities with more than 250,000 people, according to the latest annu- al FBI statistics. " D i s t r i c t Attorney John Chisholm was instrumental in getting our Oak Creek police offi- cers back on active duty after the shooting at the Sikh Temple," said Steve Scaffidi, Oak Creek mayor in a statement endorsing Chisholm. "His office worked diligently in their investigation and as a result, DA Chisholm made sure the residents of Oak Creek and Milwaukee County were safe and secure." Chisholm was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Marquette University High School, Marquette University, and the University of Wisconsin Law School. He also served as an officer in the Army. Chisholm lives in Bay View with his wife, Colleen, a public school teacher, and his teenage son, Ted. 2 • Milwaukee County Post • April 22, 2016 DA announces re-election bid Volume 22, issue number 16 The Milwaukee Post (ISSN 1544-1776) is published weekly by Conley Media, Milwaukee County 3397 South Howell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207 For all departments call: 414-744-6370 News display and advertising FAX: 414-375-7070 Classifieds: 800-762-6219 ext. 5005 Classified Fax: 262-334-6252 For display advertising inquires: 414-744-6370 Barry Richards: Advertising Representative — ext. 13 brichards@conleynet.com Julia LeGath: Advertising Representative — ext. 17 jlegath@conleynet.com Jim Baumgart Advertising Sales Director — 262-513-2621 jbaumgart@conleynet.com For editorial questions: Dan Muckelbauer Editor 262-513-2626 dmuck@conleynet.com POSTMASTER: Send address changes to the Milwaukee Post 3397 S.
