This is a modern-day retelling
set in today's New Orleans,
though, with musical numbers set
in many of the city's most iconic lo-
cations.
Naturally, any live musical
needs top-tier musical talent, and
"The Passion" doesn't disappoint
on that front. Country superstar
and cooking show host Trisha
Yearwood ("Trisha's Southern
Kitchen") stars as Mary, the
mother of Jesus, while Christ him-
self is played by award-winning
singer/actor Jencarlos Canela
("Telenovela").
Acclaimed actor, filmmaker
and New Orleans native Tyler Per-
ry ("Gone Girl," 2014) serves as
both the host and narrator of
"The Passion." Gospel singer Yo-
landa Adams, rocker Chris
Daughtry ("American Idol"), sing-
er/actor Shane Harper ("God's
Not Dead," 2014), singer Prince
Royce and British singer/song-
writer Seal all round out the cast
of biblical characters.
The events of the Passion have
found great success on the screen
before: 2004's "The Passion of the
Christ" was a massive theatrical
hit, despite its R rating.
Airing on a major network in a
prime-time slot, "The Passion"
should be a far less bloody retelling
of the final hours of Jesus' life. The
live, modern take is happening
Sunday, March 20, on Fox.
Now witness this: Julianne
Nicholson is returning to USA
Network. The actress, who starred
in last year's "Black Mass," has
joined the cast of "Eyewitness," a
new thriller that was picked up
with a straight-to-series order by
USA earlier this year.
Nicholson previously starred in
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent,"
and has also starred in "Board-
walk Empire," "Masters of Sex"
and "The Red Road."
In "Eyewitness," which is
based on the Norwegian show
"Oyevitne," she plays a loving
wife, foster mom and big-city ho-
micide detective who's just taken
a new job as a small-town sheriff.
Just as she's settling into her
quiet new life and starting to
bond with her new foster son,
though, things are turned upside
down. The troubled teenager
finds himself falling in love with
another boy from school, and
while the two of them are in the
forest, they witness a gruesome
quadruple murder. Fearful of
their secret romance being out-
ed, they swear each other to se-
crecy, even though his foster
mother is desperate to find any
clues that will help her solve the
crime.
Up-and-coming actor Tyler
Young ("Empire") stars as the
foster son, while casting is still
ongoing for the remainder of the
show's lineup.
With the casting still in its early
days, USA Network's "Eyewit-
ness" is still a while away from a
premiere date.
