TV Media Weekly | February 20 - 26, 2016 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: Now that we have seen Molly C. Quinn grow up in "Castle," will we be seeing her branch out to meatier roles? A: In Hollywood, it doesn't get much more "grown up" than be- ing a producer — when it's your money, or at least your reputation, that's on the line. So while her character has defi- nitely become an adult in "Cas- tle," she did the same as a Holly- wood entity last year when she produced and co-starred in "Wel- come to Happiness," an ensem- ble-cast independent comedy co- starring Nick Offerman (of "Parks and Recreation" fame), Paget Brewster (previously of "Criminal Minds") and Keegan-Michael Key (the first half of "Key & Peele"), among others. Otherwise, her roles outside of "Castle" have remained fairly small so far. She's done a number of short films in recent years, including three last year alone. She also did a comedic guest spot in the odd- ball YouTube series "Princess Rap Battle," playing the character Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter books in a rap music standoff against the character Katniss Everdeen from the Hun- ger Games novels. All of those were fairly brief commitments, which could reflect the fact that she's still signed to "Castle." In terms of "meatier roles," her biggest so far would have to be the titular Gretel in the 2013 film "Hansel & Gretel Get Baked," but there was nothing grownup about that one. Not only is she recreating the role of a famous fairy-tale child (though in the film the character is a young adult), but the film is part of the stoner-comedy genre, which appeals to the juvenile in all of us ("Get Baked," in this case, is a pun referring to both the fact that a witch tries to cook and eat Hansel and Gretel in the fairy tale, and to the popular slang phrase for using marijuana, which figures heavily into the plot). Hollywood Q&A By Andrew Warren TV Media W hether it's in "Triple D" or in "Triple G," Guy Fieri is the face of the Food Net- work, and he's taken that face overseas for a family adventure. For the uninitiated, that's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "Guy's Grocery Games," the two Food Network shows that brought fame to the spiky- haired, bad-boy chef. They've also brought a touch of fame to another member of the Fieri clan: Guy's teenage son, Hunter, who occasionally shows up at his father's side to provide his own youthful take on food. Over the years, "Triple D" and "Triple G" fans have watched as Hunter grew up knowing more about food than most adults do. Well, that little guy isn't so little any more, and he's finally gradu- ating high school. To celebrate, Guy is giving him a gift in his classic style: big, loud and in your face. He's taking the high school grad on a culinary tour of Europe — complete with Food Network cameras in tow. "Guy & Hunter's European Vacation" airs a new episode Friday, Feb. 26, on Food Network. It would be a dream vacation for almost any kid, but for a foodie like Hunter it's even bet- ter. Together, the father and son are visiting a whopping 13 cities across the continent, with stops in Greece, England, France, Ger- many, Italy, Spain and Switzer- land. They kicked off their tour in Athens, Greece, where Hunter got the lowdown on how to make a perfect Greek gyro. In this week's episode, the Fi- eris split their time between two neighbors: Germany and France. Both countries have a rich and famous culinary heritage, and Guy is certainly no stranger to them. In his youth, the celebrity chef was an exchange student in Chantilly, France, which is where he says he first gained his appre- ciation for French and interna- tional cuisines. It's clearly an appreciation that he's shared with his son, who gets to go on a border-hop- ping, stomach-bursting, taste bud-teasing trip of a lifetime. At least those of us watching at home can live vicariously through the Fieri clan! A new episode of "Guy & Hunter's European Vacation" airs Friday, Feb. 26, on Food Network.
