MLK DAy OF ServIce
Hundreds of people gave up part of their holiday last
month to do good deeds during the Central Pennsylvania
MLK Day of Service. roughout the area, volunteers
fixed and scrubbed, scraped and painted, cleaning and
repairing school buildings, playgrounds and other facilities.
In our area, folks fanned out to do work at more than two
dozen projects, including at the Bethesda Mission, the
Neighborhood Center, the Brethren Housing Association
and the Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg.
PA FArM ShOW
e PA Farm Show hit the century mark last month,
celebrating 100 years of sheep, shakes and showcases.
Visitors flocked in from near and far for the weeklong
agricultural extravaganza, which featured 6,000 animals
and 10,000 competitive exhibits. Other highlights: an
anniversary-themed butter sculpture, a new strawberries-
and-cream milkshake and the first-ever whoopie pie
competition. For a change, the weather was decent,
lassoing in big crowds to look, taste and enjoy.
