Classifi ed Classifi ed deadline deadline Tuesdays Tuesdays @ 3:00 @ 3:00 828-248-1496 828-248-1496 small town friendly BIG time results A community forum to review key data and health priorities from the latest fi ndings of the most recent Community Health Assessment is planned for January 27th. The form will be held at the Foundation Performing Arts & Conference Center at Isothermal Community College from 9:30 am - 11:30 am. The Rutherford- Polk-McDowell Health District, in collaboration with WNC Healthy Impact, Rutherford Regional Health System and the Rutherford Health Coalition, has been working on the completion of the Community Health Assessment (CHA). The purpose of the Community Health Assessment is to describe the health status of Rutherford County citizens in order to provide direction for the planning of disease prevention including health promotion services and activities. To accomplish this, between May and September 2015, more than 220 Rutherford County residents were interviewed to better understand their local conditions and health behaviors. This information was used to provide a snap shot that sheds light on the best strategies to prevent costly diseases, especially among vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. It is designed to be used by local government offi cials, planners and educators to determine how to best plan and support health and wellness initiatives in our community. A sample of concerns from the Community Health Assessment include: • The infant mortality rate in North Carolina is among the highest in the nation with the rate in Rutherford County being highest in Western North Carolina in 2013. • From 2009-2013 Heart Disease and Cancer were the leading cause of death for Rutherford County residents. "We know that many factors infl uence health in our community," said Jimmy Hines, Health Director of RPM Health District. "It is imperative that we use a collaborative approach to improve the overall health and wellness of those living and working in Rutherford County. Without community input it is diffi cult to establish solid prevention framework for the County which is critical for sustainability, economic growth and development." The forum is open to the Public and it is requested that you RSVP.
