Fit and healthy moms By Katherine Michalets Freeman Staff BROOKFIELD — Being fit and a good mother isn't an either-or scenario at Fit4Mom in Brookfield, where moms and soon-to-be moms can get a workout while spending time with their little ones. Even as Annie Staebler of Delafield did squats Wednes- day morning, she was able to engage with her 18-month-old daughter, who sat contentedly in her stroller. "It's a convenient way for moms to stay fit and active and to set a good example for their kids," she said. A group of mothers and their small children met for the first time Wednesday for a Fit4Mom workout inside Stu- dio Via, 14685 W. Capitol Drive. Franchise owner Tracy Joynt said after she gave birth to her now 11- month-old son, Jack, she would come home from work and have to decide whether to spend time with him or work out. "I would always pick him and I wasn't getting a work- out and not having that bal- ance in my life," Joynt said. She had heard of classes in other cities that allowed mothers to participate and bring their children. Joynt said she didn't find any simi- lar offerings in the Brookfield area so she decided to start offering them herself. As a woman who has always been big into fitness, Joynt said Fit4Mom partici- pants will get a good workout, but they range from low- to high-impact depending on the mother's fitness level. Joynt is certified in pre- and postnatal fitness and is currently working on com- pleting her ACE Personal Training certificate. Right now, Fit4Mom classes will be offered 9 a.m. Mon- days, Wednesdays and Friday, but Joynt said she plans to offer additional classes in 2016, including on weekends. She also wants to open a sec- ond location in Wauwatosa. The types of classes will also be expanded to include those for the mothers only and classes just for pregnant women. There will also be a stroller barre workout. "I really try to provide options for all levels regard- less if you haven't worked out in years," Joynt said. As a mother of four chil- dren, Staebler said it was hard for her to find time to stay fit and healthy. She said she appreciated that Fit4Mom includes the children because it's important to set a good example for them early. Also, it allows the children and mothers to associate with other kids and moms. "It is nice to have that com- munity of moms," she said. Individual drop-in classes are $18 or packages are avail- able for $65 to $150. The first class is free. http://brookfield.fit4mom.com Email: kmichalets@conleynet.com Classes allow women to be good mothers and get a workout Charles Auer/Freeman Staff Tracy Joynt, right, leads a Fit4Mom class in Brookfield on Wednesday.
