Pick 'Em The Dialogue We want to hear from you. Visit vegasinc.com to post comments to stories. On Steve Green's March 11 vegasinc. com story on Righthaven's court battles ("Digital freedom group gains another victory over R-J, Righthaven"): This is great news and an absolute victory for free speech on the Internet. The ability to add excerpts of news reports has become an integral part of social media and a must in political discussions, because the discussions generally revolve around some kind of news report or online source. This ruling will be a major precedent in protecting those involved in social media to discuss news stories without fear of being sued by another Righthaven. Thank goodness for the EFF and some great lawyers including David Kerr of Colorado and Todd Kincannon of South Carolina who really stepped up and offered pro-bono defenses. This is not likely to be appealed because Righthaven has neither the the resources nor the standing to mount an appeal. This ruling will stand. — kbingh (Ken Bingham) On Richard N. Velotta's March 12 VEGAS INC story on the impact of the Sacramento Kings arena on Las Vegas ("Progress on Kings arena unlikely to kill local projects"): This town would lose more business and money if we had a professional sports team. The neutrality of Las Vegas opens the doors for many more events that attract fans from all walks of life and allegiances to different teams. Give us one pro team and that all goes away. A larger arena would mean more shows, larger events and more people STEVE MARCUS (2011) NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: Guests interact with mobster "Big Leo" during a preview of the Las Vegas Mob Experience last year. It has been revised and rebranded as Mob Attraction Las Vegas. On Steve Green's March 12 VEGAS INC story on the newly designed Mob Attraction Las Vegas ("Consultant says Mob Attraction and museum can coexist"): I went to the attraction within the first month of it being open last year. I thought there was too much New York and prewar coverage. I can get that anywhere. The focus of any Las Vegas attraction should be Las Vegas. The glory years for Las Vegas and the mob were from 1946 to 1985. There are more than enough artifacts and multi-sensory options available that would deal exclusively with that era and provide an authentic, exciting and vibrant experience second to none. — JLOKC (Jeff Leatherock) could come to Las Vegas. That would mean more jobs than just a one team event center would create. Just build the arena with no plans for a pro team and Las Vegas will be better off. — vegasmark (Mark Anthony) On Ron Sylvester's March 2 lasvegassun.com story about new gaming attractions at the Riviera ("Old school odds: Riviera offering taste of vintage Vegas gaming"): It's a very smart way to do business. Getting bodies into your joint and giving them a fair gamble is the name of the game. It's something most casino owners have forgotten about. — Shykid Good for the Riviera. But just one table of 3:2 single deck (blackjack)? — jimbointucson (James Foster) LEILA NAVIDI On Ron Sylvester's Feb. 28 vegasinc. com story on a change in Caesars' dining lineup ("Caesars says replacement for Cafe Lago will 'redefine' Vegas buffets"): To those of you who think you can't get quality food and service at a buffet, you're apparently either going to the wrong ones or are just getting the one bad apple server out of the rest. Each time I've gone to both the buffets at Rio, Cravings at the Mirage, and the Buffet at TI, I've had both great food and great service. The "all buffets have bad food and service" argument is simply unfair, in my honest opinion. — EmotionalDirections (Joe Nielsen) On Steve Green's Feb. 24 vegasinc.com story on the death of Dennis Gomes ("Vegas friends remember former mob prosecutor, casino exec Dennis Gomes"): I worked for Dennis Gomes at old Aladdin in 1987 and he was smart, energetic, creative, fair and personable. — TABLVNV (Thomas Bruny) in January, the second-highest monthly total ever. (See Page 7) $194 million $25.7 million c 8.4 100 Las Vegas' position in the Brookings Export Nation report, which ranked the 100 largest metro areas in growth of exports from 2009 to 2010. (See Page 11) Share of the Las Vegas-area gross domestic product that exports of all types made up in 2010. Las Vegas ranked 72nd in the nation in that category, illustrating the relatively small role exports of manufactured goods play in the local economy.
