TV Media Weekly | October 17 - 23, 2015 8 | Sunday afternoon in the CBS franchise failed to keep the series alive, the victim of an ongoing trend — major television networks have been moving away from original mov- ies for years now. Luckily, Hallmark still sees the potential. The channel that's known for its high-quality mov- ies picked up the rights to the Jesse Stone franchise, and a ninth film, "Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise," is premiering Sunday, Oct. 18. Longtime "Jesse Stone" fans will be relieved to know that the network change should be the only noticeable difference. The tit- ular character himself will still be played by the irreplaceable Tom Selleck ("Magnum, P.I."), who's held the leading role for all eight previous films. Robert Harmon, who directed all but one of the previous movies (2011's "Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost" being the exception), has also signed back on for the film. The Jesse Stone movies are based on a series of detective nov- els by crime writer Robert B. Park- er. Selleck's Stone is the chief of police in Paradise, Massachusetts, a troubled man who struggles with alcohol and his relationship with his ex-wife. "Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise" premieres Sunday, Oct. 18, on Hallmark. A dangerous retirement: Looks like retirement is treating David Letterman rather "danger- ously." The former "Late Show" host retired from that defining gig in May after 22 years behind the desk, but he's not letting retire- ment silence him. The comedian has signed on as a correspon- dent for the second season of the Emmy-winning "Years of Liv- ing Dangerously." The first season of the docu- mentary series aired on Show- time, but the second season — scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2016 — has moved to Na- tional Geographic. "Years of Living Dangerously" is all about climate change. In each episode, a celebrity with an interest in global warming or a journalist with a history of report- ing on environmental issues trav- els to a place in the world — ei- ther in America or abroad — that's already feeling the effects of climate change. There, they inter- view both ordinary people and ex- perts, finding out how the chang- ing climate is affecting them and what they're doing to mitigate it In Letterman's case, he'll be making his first-ever trip to India, the world's second most populous country.
