Patoka Lake Cleanup Day results More than 1,500 pounds of trash were re- moved from the perime- ter of Patoka Lake during the annual Cleanup Day on September 12, 2015. This year's event drew 105 people to pick up lit- ter in an effort to help en- sure clean drinking wa- ter for more than 100,000 Southern Indiana resi- dents. Many local resi- dents made this a family event, and several high school clubs utilized it as a service project. A fter signing in at 8 a.m. at Hoosier Hills Ma- rina, volunteers were di- vided into small groups and met with conser- vation officers who dis- cussed safety instruc- tions and distributed bug spray, grapplers, latex gloves and trash bags. The volunteers were sent out to eight differ- ent locations pre-identi- fied as having significant amounts of litter. They sorted the garbage as it was being collected, sep- arating aluminum, plas- tic and glass from non- recyclable trash. Their efforts were rewarded at noon with a free lunch, T- shirts and prizes. Patoka Lake Clean- up Day is sponsored by Patoka Lake Watershed Committee, Patoka Lake Regional Water & Sew- er District, IDNR/Pato- ka Lake, and US Army Corps of Engineers.
