TV Media Weekly | September 12 - 18, 2015 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: I saw a TV episode about people who went back in time to take Hitler right after he was born and to throw him in a river. But there was a twist ending, which I forget. What show was it? A: There was always a twist ending with "The Twilight Zone." The episode, titled "Cra- dle of Darkness," was part of the less-remembered third version of "The Twilight Zone," which aired on the now-also-forgotten UPN network from 2002 all the way to 2003 (it was canceled af- ter just one season). In the episode, as you say, a young woman travels to 1889 to kill Hitler as a baby. That young woman was played by a very young Katherine Heigl, who would become famous a few years later for saving lives as Izzie Stevens in "Grey's Anato- my." Q: On the new "Hawaii 5-0," McGarrett talks about his dad's old car, and when it's shown, it looks like the same make as the car that Jack Lord drove in the origi- nal. Is it? A: It's more than the same make, it's the same car. In the last few seasons of the original "Hawaii 5-O" series, which ran from 1968 to 1980, Det. Steve McGarrett (played by Jack Lord) drove an all-black 1974 Mercury Marquis. When that show finally ended, Lord gave it to his stuntman, John Nordlum, to show his gratitude — and since it was Nordlum who did the hardest work be- hind the wheel. When the new series came along — with a zero instead of the letter "O" — Nordlum agreed to lend the car to the producers to put on screen occa- sionally. "Jack's spirit is in that car, and he is going to live again in this show through that car," Nordlum told the "Honolulu Ad- vertiser." Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. Hollywood Q&A By Andrew Warren TV Media I f there's one thing America does that's just as big and ex- citing as our food — and boy oh boy, do we do food well — it's our summer carnivals. Wheth- er it's a small-town festival or a massive state fair, our carnivals are almost always big, loud and overflowing with succulent good- ies. Anthony Anderson, the star of ABC's "Black-ish," has spent the summer with the enviable job of traveling around the country and trying out all of the deep fried or bacon-wrapped goodies that he can find — all with Food Net- work's team of cameras in tow, of course. The result is "Carnival Cravings with Anthony Ander- son," which airs Wednesday nights on Food Network. That's right, it turns out that Anderson is a bit of a foodie. He first started cooking at the age of 13 and learned a lot of his tech- niques from TV chef Julia Child. Of course, the tarragon finger- ling potatoes and truffle mac and cheese that he loves to cook at home are a far cry from the fried turkey legs and funnel cakes that he'll find for sale at summer car- nivals. That hasn't been stopping him from digging in, though, and despite having a love of fancier fare, he's been attacking the car- nival foods with great gusto. So just where has Anderson been stopping to test out his taste buds and fill up his stom- ach? The premiere episode last month saw him swinging by the Got to Be NC Festival in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina, where he chowed down on some red- neck egg rolls and an amazing bacon-wrapped dessert. He has also jaunted across the country to Sacramento, California, for a ba- con-topped cinnamon roll sun- dae; Oswego, Illinois, for a Chica- go crab dog; and this week, he stops by Pleasanton, California, for a lobster dog and mac and cheese-stuffed burger. Carnivals aren't just about the food — there's fun to be had, too! In between meals, Ander- son's been betting on pig races, milking cows, riding the midway rides and even entering a bubble gum-blowing contest. In the end, though, the focus is on the great American foods on display, and that's the way it should be. Carnivals and food go hand in hand, and Anthony An- derson is trying them both out in "Carnival Cravings with Anthony Anderson," airing Wednesday nights on Food Network.
