TV Media Weekly | September 5 - 11, 2015 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: Will the made-for-TV ver- sion of the "The Transporter" be back? I really enjoyed it. A: No announcement has been made yet on the future of "Trans- porter: The Series," and speculation is even harder on this one than most. It's complicated because, like the characters in the action-packed series itself, the show is embroiled in a mesh of international interests. The series was originally intend- ed to air simultaneously in the U.S. and internationally, however its original U.S. backer, Cinemax, pulled out at the last minute. Only after the first season aired in Cana- da (on TMN and Movie Central) and France, and was picked up for a second season, did TNT step in to air it in the U.S. Its U.S. ratings haven't been great, though, so the question is: if TNT drops the show, will it still be produced for the rest of the world? The Canadian and French produc- ers seem to be waiting to see what TNT says before they make anoth- er: season 2 aired outside the U.S. back in 2014, and no announce- ment of a new season has been made since. Q: I heard that Disney was going to make a movie from the "Peter and the Starcatch- ers" series of books by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Is there anything happening with that or was that all just a ru- mor? A: You didn't mention a third op- tion: It was not just a rumor, how- ever there is nothing happening with that. Disney was earnestly working on a film version of "Peter and the Starcatchers," which was a Peter Pan prequel series written by famed humorist Dave Barry and established suspense novelist Rid- ley Pearson. And it had every rea- son to be earnest about it, since it owned the property. The books were published by Hyperion, which is a Disney subsidiary. However, the last news of this project came in 2013 and nothing seems to have been done since. Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. Please include your name and town. Hollywood Q&A By Andrew Warren TV Media E ver looked at a genius, at a prodigy, and just want- ed to crack open his or her skull and dig around in there (figuratively, of course)? Just what was it that gave Einstein his insights into the re- ality of our universe? Who wouldn't want to root around in Edison's mind and pull out a few brilliant ideas? Well, if you have any interest at all in fine foods and delicious meals and haven't been watch- ing PBS's "The Mind of a Chef," then you've been missing out on the opportunity to do just that with some of America's greatest culinary minds. The fourth season of the Em- my-winning show premiered last week and is currently airing Sat- urday evenings on the public broadcaster. Just like in seasons past, two of the country's most recognized chefs will have their brains picked clean, as we're gradually taken on a journey through their inspirations, their loves and their lives to find out just where their culinary creativi- ty comes from. This season is bringing for- ward a pair of chefs from oppo- site ends of the country. From the east comes Chef Gabrielle Ham- ilton, the chef and owner of Prune restaurant in New York City, a published author and the winner of three James Beard Awards. From the west comes Chef David Kinch, the chef and propri- etor of California's famous Man- resa, a restaurant that has earned two Michelin stars for six years running. Beyond that amazing distinction, his restau- rant has been named one of the 50 best in the world by "Restau- rant Magazine." So, clearly, there's something going on in these chefs' brains that has taken them to the very top of their profession. As in sea- sons past, Anthony Bourdain narrates each episode (he also serves as executive producer) as the cameras take us to locations around the world that have guided the culinary journeys of the pair of subjects, explore the ingredients that really drive them to excel and talk to the people who've influenced and inspired them. After three seasons, a few Em- mys and a pair of James Beard Awards, "The Mind of a Chef" is still going strong. The fourth sea- son continues Saturdays on PBS (check local listings).
