19 Diversity Rules Magazine September 2015 Vietnam - Con't from page 16 please be mindful of the host's customs by avoiding reveling clothing, shorts and graphic tee shirts specifi- cally when visiting pagodas. Any public displays of af- fection, either straight or gay, are frowned upon and are bound to elicit disapproving looks from the locals. As with all tourist destinations, be mindful of theft crime, as Vietnam is certainly not a country where poverty is a stranger. If you have any comments, suggestions or recommenda- tions, please feel free to email me at RSnj@aol.com. QAD - Con't from page 9 "I feel exhilarated that you might actually accept me as a sexual being; that you might see the deliciousness that is my disability." —Andrew Morrison-Gurza Deafened at eight months old in a small town in Mich- igan's Upper Peninsula, the editor Raymond Luczak grew up feeling different and being treated as such. But it wasn't until he went to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., that he began to explore the ques- tion of being Deaf and gay. After graduation, he moved to New York City and soon met Cook Friedman, the facilitator of a disabled gay group. More than a quarter- century later, Luczak pays tribute to his friend, who'd taught him somuch, with a stunning anthology wholly unthinkable back in the fall of 1988. QDA is a gather- ing ofpeople with the transformative—and political— power of love that transcends gender and ability. Finally, Jennifer Bartlett, co-editor of Beauty Is a Verb: e New Poetry of Disability, has this to say about QDA: "An anthology often creates a community. In this respect, QDA is truly groundbreaking because it brings two wonderful communities together. ere is not a single style, genre, or opinion inthe book, but an orchestra of voices. eir seminal works mirror—and do not mirror—each other. Taken together, they light a brilliant path of honesty." Contributors to this anthology include both new and established voices: D. Allen, Bex, Jax Jacki Brown, Lydia Brown, Larry Connolly, David Cummer, Bren- na Cyr, Meg Day, Christopher Dempsey, Carl Wayne Denney, Arthur Durkee, Mark Ellis, Monique Flynn, Allison Fradkin, Kenny Fries, Joel Gates, Beatrice Hale, Tak Hallus, Stephanie Heit, Sara Ibraham, Ja- son T.
