She was born and raised in Rutherfordton, NC. She graduated from Rutherfordton-Spindale Central High School, Mars Hill College and Limestone College. Early in her career she met the man who would be her husband for 50 years until his death in 2005, Junius Summerfield "Pete" Grimes, III. In addition to her husband, she was pre- deceased by her sister, Helen W. Frost and her brother, D.S "Bob" Wilkins. Catherine is survived by her chil- dren, Junius S. "Jess" Grimes, IV and wife Alice of Norfolk, VA, Cathy Grimes Tomasetti and husband John of Raleigh, and David C. Grimes and wife Cheryl of Raleigh; six grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Martha D. Wilkins, her brother Charles H. Wilkins, seven sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Services were conducted at St. Giles Presbyterian Church and the committal at Raleigh Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, or to the Heifer Project. Donald was born in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Fred Lee Hunt and Pauline Avery Hunt. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and worked as a truck driver most of his life. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen Rushlau Hunt, granddaughter Bristol Kay Harris and his sister, Linda Haire. Survivors include three daughters, Leeann and Wayne Bowron of Grand Island, FL, Mary & David Whiteside of Golden Valley, NC, Melinda & Aaron Harris of Umatilla, FL; two sons, William Hunt, David Hunt and Tammy Lewis of Umatilla, FL. OLIVER HICKS "SONNY" KOONE JR Oliver Hicks "Sonny" Koone Jr., 80, of Spindale passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012. He was born on December 20, 1931 and moved to Rutherford County in 1937. He was the son of the late Oliver Hicks Koone Sr. and Daisey Kirby Koone. Sonny was a member of the Western Star Lodge Number 91 of Rutherfordton, a gradu- ate of Oakridge Military Institute Oak Ridge, NC and had worked for the merchant marines. He was co-owner of the Shake Shop in Spindale from 1952-1970. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty Hudson Koone; two sons: Oliver "Hicks" Koone, III, and wife Rita of Gaffney, SC; Shannon Koone of Spindale; one daughter: Karen Koone Hewitt and husband Mike Hewitt of Rutherfordton; one grandson Justin Koone of Forest City. Services will be held at a later date. A native of Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Roland Joseph and Dorothy Cross Poirier. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. ELIZABETH (BETTY) BARBARA AUGUSTINE GIBSON Elizabeth (Betty) Barbara Augustine Gibson of Albany, GA. Beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed on January 9th, 2012 at the age of 90 with family by her side. Betty was born in Racine, Wisconsin to Leland Brown Augustine and Ella Marion Evans Augustine. She was the first of two children and is survived by her sis- ter, Marion Augustine Schlueter Davis of Naperville, Illinois. Betty is survived by her son and his life partner Stephen Gibson and Carlos Ferreria of Oakland, CA., her son and his wife Eric and Brenda Gibson of Rutherfordton, NC and her daughter and her hus- band Sarah and Jeffrey Davis of Lafayette, CO.
