NELLIE THRIFT Nellie Mae Ellison Thrift, 82, of Shelby, NC passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Services were held at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home. Internment followed in Sunset Cemetery. Mrs. Thrift was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Thrift; her parents, Ervin and Bertha Ellison; brothers, James and Melvin Ellison; and great-grandchild, Hunter Collings. She is survived by her sons, Ted Thrift and wife Susan, and James Thrift of Shelby; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Doyle and Martha Ellison, Alvin and Niki Ellison, and Tommy Ellison; four sisters and brothers- in-law, Edith and Wayne Goforth; Elizabeth and Julius Lowery; Ruth and Gene Cook, and Viola and David Kilgore; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and 18 nieces and nephews. Mr. Hanel served our country in the US Marines. He was preced- ed in death by his wife Madlyn Anastasia Noble Hanel; his parents, Harold Hanel and May Hershel Hanel; son-in-law Bobby Burgess; and two brothers, Robert and Charles Hanel.
