More Like Spring Than Winter...The warm Winter contin- ues, and the nation is experiencing one of the warmest, and stormiest on record. The only cold and snowy place is Alaska, and even there they are breaking all time snow and cold records ever since the Fall, with over 20 feet of snow falling in some towns. The culprit is the Alaskan Vortex which has locked the cold and stormy pattern in for that state, but helped pump up a huge area of warmth for the rest of the country. We will continue to have a Spring type of pattern filled with thunderstorms in January and pos- sible tornadoes in some areas where the cool air collides with warm, moist air. It's similar to Spring. Only time will tell if February can reverse the pattern and finally give us a taste of Winter, but time is running out.Days are getting longer now and any snow that falls will be melted quickly. Unfortunately the longer Winter is delayed, the colder our Spring will be. Katherine E.
