Gene was born in Shelby, where he retired as owner and operator of Branton Construction. He is married to Jean Moss Branton and they have 3 children, 3 grand- children, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby. "This is a very special award and shows tremendous dedication and support to Kiwanis Club of Shelby." said Martha Bivins, 2012 Club President. Kiwanis Club of Shelby was chartered on September 28, 1922 and started the Cleveland County Fair in 1923. Kiwanis is committed to helping the children in our neighborhoods and communities, changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis Club of Shelby also supports 20 children's programs throughout Cleveland County. The Club meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday at noon at the Cleveland Country Club, and is open to men and women 18 years and older who want to serve their community and have a great time. Caroline Borders with Assistant Admissions Coordinator, Chris Osborne CCC Student Wins Spring Tuition Scholarship by Registering Online Cleveland Community College recently awarded CCC student, Caroline Borders, with a tuition scholarship for her participation in online registration for the spring 2012 semester. At this time, over 60-percent of CCC students are taking advantage of online registration. Borders is a 2010 graduate of Crest High School and says she has used the online registration process each time she has registered for classes. "I prefer online registration so I can get the classes I want before they are filled and I don't have to wait in line to register," she adds.
