Both are extraor- dinarily fast and can jump. But with twins, there is always that subtle differ- ence. Allie Bullen will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, while Drew Bullen just does the 100 dash. The winning, though, is also almost identi- cal for the juniors. Drew Bullen was the big- ger winner at last month's Greater Metro Conference Championships, as he won the 100 and long jump, and had runner-up finishes in the 200 and triple jump. Allie — competing in just two events due to some lin- gering injuries — took the 100 hurdles and finished sec- ond in the long jump. "Since we were kids, we were always the two fastest kids and we were always racing against each other in our yard," Drew Bullen said. "It was always a competition between us two with who's faster — and it took off in high school." The Bullens also were a catalyst for a Brookfield East sweep. The boys won with 191 points, beating Menomonee Falls by 35 points. The girls won with 170 points, beating out Brookfield Central by 22 points, earning the girls the league triple crown (indoor, relays, outdoor). The East girls showed off their depth with Allie Bullen not at 100 percent. She was the third seed in the triple jump, but did not com- pete in the event. She has also been on a state-qualify- ing relay team the past two years but did not compete in a relay. Allie Bullen also didn't compete in the finals for the long jump. Her jump of 15 feet, 6 inches led by one inch after preliminaries. Her head wanted to compete in the finals, but her coaches and hamstring said no. Hamilton junior Meghan Joyner beat Bullen out by one-quarter inch. The 100 hurdles was no contest. Her time of 15.34 beat Joyner by 0.72 of a sec- ond. But Allie Bullen didn't beat her brother in points for the team, which is some- thing she likes to do. "Always. I always feel like I want to win more stuff than you and earn more points than you," Allie Bullen said as she turned to her brother. "Even on tests, too. I'm always competing against you even though you are a boy. I always want to win more." "I never really felt that way," Drew Bullen answered back. "I feel like that when it comes to tests, but in track and field, I love to see her win as many golds and sil- vers as much as she can." Allie Bullen said it took Drew's growth spurt for him to finally get faster. And he was faster than most at the meet. He turned on the jets in the final 15 meters of the 100 to win in 11.14. Menomonee Falls junior Mason Jansen took second in 11.23. West Allis Central senior Kion Criswell returned the favor in the 200. Drew Bullen led for about 180 meters until Criswell turned it up. Bullen finished in 22.57, while Criswell won in 22.42. It was an all-Brookfield East competition at the top between Bullen and junior Mario Carr in the sand pit. As the top seed, Bullen won the long jump at 20-9, while Carr finished with a 20-5. Carr — as the favorite — won the triple jump at 42 feet, while Bullen finished second at 41-5 1/4. Bullen was the fifth seed entering the meet. Drew Bullen knows the pain his sister is going through with injuries because he missed most of last year due to leg injuries. That's the reason why does sprints and no longer the hurdles. "I came into the season with shin splints, so there's not a day that I don't feel some sort of injury in my body — but I just push through it," Allie Bullen said. "This year my shins haven't been bad because I've been taking it light on them," Drew added.
