Barbara Eash antiques column 5 244512004 WORD OF MOUTH A friend of Mike's had his own medical another and was very dissatisfied until he tried Comfort Keepers. He spoke so highly of his care that when Mike needed help to remain at home, he remembered his friend's referral and called Comfort Keepers. In addition to serving his country in the Army, Mike had suffered strokes, heart attacks, and undergone amputations over time. He endured long stays in hospitals and nursing homes but Not only did Mike serve honorably in the Army, his career spanned 30 years at AT&T and touched numerous lives along the way. Upon returning home from another month in the hospital, his positive attitude for being alive was evident when he stated "it could be worse." What a spirit of gratitude! Mike often noted "he loves his Debra and Comfort Keepers ability to increase or lower hours according to his needs and his budget." Mike's daughter lived 100 miles away and enjoyed peace of mind seeing firsthand how the quality care Comfort Keepers provided, knowing that her dad was always well cared for. Mike adapted to life as an amputee and was able to function with the help of Comfort Keepers. Mike was an inspiration to Comfort Keepers as to how we should live our life and appreciate all our blessings. Thanks Mike for serving our country and teaching us a valuable lesson. A CALLING Shar Meller, owner of your local Comfort Keepers, had watched her own dad and Mom fight to remain in the comfort of their home. She saw firsthand the determination and stress – both mental and physical – on her mom as the main caregiver for her dad in honoring his wish to die at home. Shar said she had an inspiration or a calling from God to dedicate her life to helping seniors remain independent with the love and dignity they deserve. Comfort Keepers Provides Peace of Mind! HOT RODS FOR HOT NIGHTS By Christopher Bennett Special to The Freeman ELM GROVE — A rolling, metal time machine of varying colors and shapes comes alive twice a month every June, July and August in Elm Grove. Vintage iron rolls the streets and people are stirred by the sight of clas- sic vehicles from times gone by. Maybe the preserved beauties pro- vide a reminder of the cars from one's childhood or teen years. Maybe one drove their children home from the hospital in a car like one of the many on display the sec- ond and fourth Monday of each month in the parking lot behind Sil- ver Spur Texas Smokehouse BBQ, 13275 Watertown Plank Road in Elm Grove. That's the spot Cruisin' the Grove, now in its fourth season, has called home for the last three years. From 5 p.m. until dark, America's automo- tive past speeds into the present. "It's a nice, relaxing evening," said Dan Riedel. Riedel is an account exec- utive with Woller Anger & Company, an Elm Grove insurance firm, and helps organize Cruisin' the Grove. "One of the things that people love to make comments about, on those hot, summer nights in Elm Grove, is that we've got these shade trees that cover the parking lot." Cruisin' the Grove started as a way for Woller Anger to engage the com- munity. Riedel said that's what Robert Anger and Ervin Woller, the firm's partners and owners, had in mind when they helped start the event. "I started doing some car shows for my church," Riedel said. "We were talking about and looking at ways to be a steward in the community and try to engage the community."
