Page 14 - shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 It's A Good LifeGood Life It's A Tax Preparation Time The Neal Senior Center will once again be working with AARP to assist with INCOME TAX preparation. Currently Volunteers will be available from 9:00 am – 1:00pm, Wednesday and Thursday from February 1st to April 12th . Walk ins will be taken based on availability, appointments are recommended. You can schedule your time by calling the center at 704-482-3488, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00 pm. Emphasis placed on those with low to middle income levels. You do not have to be a member of AARP. Required documents in order to have return started: •Social Security Cards or comparable documentation for you, your spouse (if applicable) and all dependents. •Income related documents: Forms W2, Unemployment compensation statements, SSA, 1099, 1099R, and other 1099 forms showing home mortgage interest or other income. •Expense related documents: Checks and forms showing federal and state taxes paid, 1098 forms, documentation of medical, dental, charity, or business expenses, any vehicle and property taxes, and mortgage interest paid. Receipts for expenses need to be in reasonable order and legible. •Brokerage statements or other documentation showing the cost basis (purchase price) and date purchased for all securities or property sold or transferred during the tax year. •A check with your name printed on it for direct deposit/debit or any refund/balance due. A check in your checkbook is acceptable. A cancelled check is not required. Other Helpful documents to bring: •Please provide a copy of your last year's tax return. The data on the last yera's return is needed to complete the new tax return if you had itemized deductions the previous year and received a refund. •If you receive a pension or annuity from a former employer, please bring the date that you began to receive payments . (In some cases this is required). Dish Luncheons The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Monthly Covered Center, located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will hold 2 covered dish lun- cheons in January - Friday, January 6, 2011 and Friday, January 20, 2011 from 11:30-1:00 pm in the Performing Arts Room of the Center. Everyone is invited to attend. Please bring your favorite dish and join in all the fun. On January 20st Bring your favorite soup or chili, cornbread, crackers and desserts for this special winter covered dish (in honor of National Soup Month). If you are not a cook, feel free to contribute by bringing something purchased at the grocery store or local restaurant. Covered Dish Luncheon Rules: Everyone must bring something to share unless you are a first time visitor. No takeouts will be allowed. Donations will be accepted and are appreciated to cover cost of tea, plates, cups, etc. NOW ACCEPTING NEW RESIDENTS FOR SHORT TERM REHABILITATION we will do soups and/or chili. Winterfest was a big success in 2011 so we decided to do it again as our winter fundraiser instead of the Rockathon. Due to the continued tough economy, the Council on Aging felt that the Rockathon would not be feasible again this year. Dinner-Dance Fundraiser COA/Senior Center Winterfest will be held at the Neal Senior Center (100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC) on Friday, January 27, 2012 beginning at 5:30 pm. The cost will be $10 per person which will include dinner (Menu: Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage) and an evening of dancing. Music for the dance will be provided by DJ Don Hamrick who will play a wide variety of music for your listening and dancing pleasure. Winterfest is open to the public. Tickets are on sale and available at the Neal Senior Center and may be purchased through January 25, 2012.
