BACKYARD ADVENTURES 2015 Pike Publishing 11 2015 event CALENDAR It's time to begin the adventure! Come with us and enjoy the festivals, activities and events that make the Tri-State unique. Along the way, we'll point out some of the local events that you're sure to enjoy! FORT BRANCH COMMUNITY PRIDE FEST The Fort Branch Community Pride Festival has been through good and bad times in the past several years. This year, it's under new leadership, as Candy Yancey is now in charge of the Fort Branch Community Pride Foun- dation. Yancey said there's changes in store for the fest. "We're trying to expand out and have things going on in more places around town," Yancey said. "And we're really trying to beef up the parade this year... So we're actively seeking entrants. It's free to enter and a great way to promote your business." The festival is June 4 to June 6, and Yancey has already started working out the details. Rides are confirmed for this year, and the food booths have an expanded roster. "We've got the big slide, teacups, a kiddie roller coaster, the swings, and an obstacle course for the rides," Yancey said. "We're still accepting applications for food booths, but so far we have confirmed Rub-em-Right BBQ, Simply Delicious caramel corn, New Canaan Foods, Kolb's Culinary Creations, Holy Cross chicken din- ners, Deano's Concessions, the Zeta Gamma Sorority, and on Friday and Saturday night, the Fort Branch Little League." Family night is Thursday night at the festival. There's a car show Friday night at the baseball fields, and the cornhole tournament and parade are returning Saturday, along with at least two bands, the Off-Brands and Brad Lemmons, performing. However, there's also events happening outside the park this year. "We're going to have a white tiger exhibit, and on Saturday after the parade, the Broadway Players will be performing on the library lawn," Yancey said, "And the parks board is going to do a 'night of memories' at the old gym on Saturday afternoon and evening... We're also trying to work with the local merchants to get more things set up throughout town." The Pride Foundation and the newly-formed parks board are work- ing together on the 2015 festival, and Yancey said anyone in the community is welcome to assist. Vendors, non- profits and home businesspeople are also welcome to apply for booths at the festival. The Pride Foundation is also putting out fanfare and progress updates on their Facebook page as the fair inches closer. "Our theme this year is 'Bringing Back the Pride,' and my goal is to gen- erate some excitement and build some interest this year—if we can get more volunteers, great; if we can get more booths out, awesome," Yancey said. "The Fort Branch Community Pride organization is a group of volunteers, and the money raised by the fest goes back into the community—to have another fest next year, and to do other events through the year like egg hunts or family movie nights."
