Send your info to news@vegasinc.com Gary Loveman, CEO and president of Caesars Entertainment, was named Hotelier of the Year- Southern Nevada by the Nevada Hotel & Lodging Association, the highest honor bestowed by the organization. Loveman was cited for leading the company through challenging economic times by fostering such initiatives as the Total Rewards program, which boasts more than 40 million patrons. In related news, properties in Caesars' Northern Nevada region received the hotel and lodging organization's Star of Industry and Sustainability award. In addition, Caesars honorees included Lucy Loh, from the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino, as Casino Employee of the Year, Jadwiga Maruszewska, from the Flamingo Las Vegas, as Housekeeping Employee of the Year, and Edward Eugene Hollis, from Bally's, as Food and Beverage Employee of the Year. Alja Halleran, training manager for the Signature at MGM Grand, has earned the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance credential from the American Society for Training & Development Certification Institute. Lindsey Young is store manager for maurices national specialty store's location at 7235 Arroyo Crossing Parkway. Young is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store, including sales performance, visual presentation, and personnel recruitment and training. Bo Bernhard is executive director of the International Gaming Institute at UNLV's Harrah College of Hotel Administration. SILVESTRI Wells Cargo receives recognition The Nevada State Contractors Board recently recognized Wells Cargo, which has held a contractor license since 1941, the year the state board was created by the Legislature. Wells Cargo is a family-owned Las Vegas company formed in 1935, and which is now active in general engineering, construction, mining, transportation and land development. Valley Health Systems recently announced new appointments. Allyson Hoover is director of business development, David Woodard is director of infection control and Alan Woratschek is director of information services for the organization, which is comprised of Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center, Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center and Valley Hospital Medical Center. BERNHARD Two development officers for the Smith Center for the Performing Arts have assumed new roles. Tessie Poggione is director of major gifts, a position in which she will work with donors and oversee all donations. Lara Kolberg is director of education gifts and grants, and will focus on grant writing and donation development to support education and outreach programs. Vanessa Maniago is vice president of branding and marketing for United Way of Southern Nevada. She previously was vice president of strategic development at R&R Partners. The Dr. Miriam & Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus honored Alan Dershowitz at its annual scholarship gala Nov. 13. Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor and author of 29 books, was awarded the Pursuit of Excellence Award for 4 Sickle cell benefit event planned Celine Dion, Caesars Entertainment and AEG Live are teaming to support "Play Without Pain: Children's Sickle Cell Benefit" on Jan. 15 at Caesars Palace. Funding from the benefit will support research and efforts to increase awareness about sickle cell anemia. The program will include a presentation of Dion's show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace as well as an exclusive reception at PURE Nightclub sponsored by Southern Wine & Spirits following the performance. Tickets range from $155 to $350 and are available through Ticketmaster.com. Burger restaurant expands I Love Burgers has opened in Town Square, its second Las Vegas location. The restaurant is managed by the LEV Restaurant Group. Resorts team for benefit Six major Las Vegas resorts will participate in a "Suite Holidays" benefit for Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada on Dec. 17. Guests will receive luxury accommodations, hors d'oeuvres, wine and a complimentary shuttle service. Rooms are $125 for the event, and proceeds will benefit the local Slidin' Thru parks in building The Las Vegas food truck enterprise Slidin' Thru has opened a restaurant in a fixed location. The restaurant opened Dec. 9 at 6440 N. Durango Drive, where it will offer drive-through service and seating for 30 diners. Hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Hospitals offer online registration Sunrise Health Hospital has begun offering some patients a chance to register online for upcoming procedures. The service is available on the hospital system's websites to expectant women and anyone requesting a mammogram screening appointment, among others. To register, or to request a mammogram appointment, patients may go to any of the Sunrise Health Hospital's four websites: SunriseHospital.com, MountainView- Hospital.com, SouthernHillsHospital.com and SunriseChildrensHospital.com UNLV, Brookings launch program In a partnership between UNLV and the Brookings Institution, UNLV will begin offering an academic minor in public policy beginning next month. The minor is designed by Brookings Mountain West, a joint initiative between UNLV and Brookings, and will be coordinated through the UNLV College of Urban Affairs. It is the first time Brookings and a university have partnered on an undergraduate degree program, according to a UNLV news release.
