Send your info to news@vegasinc.com McCarthy Building Companies raised more than $8,000 for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, held Oct. 1. McCarthy organized more than 50 walkers and was a sponsor of the event. McCarthy and Tyco Fire Company teamed up Nov. 14 to make improvements to the St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Boulder City. More than 180 community volunteers donated construction- related services and materials for repairs and upkeep. The Southern Nevada Commercial Group, an alliance of local businesses, raised nearly $7,000 for the American Heart Association and Family Promise at its annual golf tournament at Silverstone Golf Club. Chase presented a check for $20,000 to Goodwill of Southern Nevada at the opening of its Las Vegas banking branch Nov. 5. The money will be used to help fund a jobs program. Chase also held an employee volunteering event at Goodwill the following day. Gold & Silver Pawn Shop employees donated $11,500 to the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which will distribute it to the 22 Shriners hospitals nationally. The money was raised through T-shirt sales by the business, best known as the setting for the "Pawn Stars" TV series. Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Vegas PBS have received the Neighborhood Builders award from Bank of America, which provides each nonprofit organization a $200,000 unrestricted grant and leadership training. The bank also announced its annual Local Heroes award recipients, who each received a $5,000 donation for the nonprofit charity of their choice. The individuals and the charities they selected: Judy Cebulko, Lied Discovery Children's Museum; Monique Harris, Southern Nevada Children First; Chris Cappas, Goodwill of Southern Nevada; Camille Duskin, Hattie's House; and Candice Nicols, Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada. City National Bank raised almost $20,000 for United Way of Southern Nevada through its annual Workplace Giving Program. The bank also is partnering with Barnes & Noble for a multistate book drive to benefit schools in Nevada, California, New York and Nashville, Tenn. As part of the program, City National will match book donations to local schools up to $50,000. Home furnishings retailer RC Willey made a $7,500 donation to the Shade Tree, the 24-hour accessible shelter designed specifically to meet the needs of women and children in Southern Nevada. Community Management Group has donated office space as a food drop-off location for Three Square Food Bank through Dec. 20. CMG is at 3360 West Sahara Ave., Suite 200. Donations can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 6 United Way of Southern Nevada's Women's Leadership Council collected more than 5,700 professional items, including suits, dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry, at its Fall Suit Drive at NV Energy on Nov. 4. In conjunction with the clothing drive, Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood served as drop-off location for donated business attire. MGM Resorts International employees donated more than 98 tons of canned food to Three Square Food Bank. The 98 tons of food will provide more than 151,045 meals through the Program Partners program. The group donated 38 tons in 2010. The CarMax Foundation has awarded $12,500 in grants to Las Vegas youth-related organizations. The Las Vegas-area recipients and the amounts they received: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, $5,000, for its Site-Based Match program, which connects adult volunteers with elementary school-aged children; Street Teens, $5,000, for the Sanctuary Drop-In Center, where teens can connect with a family member in times of need; and Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, $2,500, for Troop 83's Light Up the Night program for children with cancer. TRONOX LLC Electrolytic Productions Division in Henderson is for the third consecutive year serving as a financial partner for Taylor Elementary School's Robotics Club, an extracurricular organization for fourth- and fifth-graders. Las Vegas area Rotary Clubs gave their annual "gift of the holidays" to local children Dec. 8, enabling them to shop for essential clothing items at J.C. Penney stores. Children had been identified by charitable organizations in the Las Vegas Valley. Each also received an age-appropriate gift, a visit with UNLV athletes and cheerleaders and a pizza party. Rio Spa & Salon at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino held a toy drive during November, with an emphasis on bicycles. All toys and bikes collected were donated to HELP of Southern Nevada. Humana Guidance Centers in Henderson and Summerlin collected 400 pounds of food to benefit Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to senior citizens in Southern Nevada. Humana staff and members participated in the valleywide food drive. Volunteers from Sempra Generation's Copper Mountain Solar Plant assisted with the distribution of donated bikes and helped teach safety basics at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Holiday Bike Bonanza Dec. 3. Sempra Energy Foundation donated $1,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the company is donating an additional $5,000 to other local causes. For the third consecutive year, Nevada State Bank donated $25,000 to Communities in Schools of Nevada, which serves more than 25,000 at-risk youth. The funds will help support the Flag View breakfast program to ensure area youths will receive nutrition. Flightlinez and the Fremont Street Experience donated all revenue from zip line rides on Dec. 8 from noon to midnight to Alpha Men & Divas of Tomorrow, a leadership organization for high school youth that helps prepare students to further their academic success by graduating from high school and attending a four-year college or university. Wells Fargo provided $100,000 to Consumer Credit Counseling Service to help fund energy efficiency improvements for homebuyers acquiring down payment assistance from Clark County and North Las Vegas. The Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and the Wells Fargo Foundation are providing an additional $20,000 and $25,000, respectively, to help fund CCCS programs and operations. City National Bank began its annual canned food and toy drive supporting Safe Nest on Dec. 1. The bank is collecting canned and nonperishable food items and toys for children at its branches and Las Vegas Regional Center. For the past 10 years, City National has been providing holiday outreach to nonprofit groups. St. Rose Dominican Hospitals/Catholic Healthcare West has made $305,695 in grant awards to 10 nonprofit organizations in Henderson and Las Vegas, the 19th year of the program. Those awarded grants will receive the funding at a luncheon Jan. 4. Community organization recipients included: Dr. Joel and Carol Bower School-Based Health Center: $50,000; Shade Tree, Stallman Touro Medical Clinic for Women and Children: $50,000; Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition: $50,000; Volunteers in Medicine Health Care Access Program: $50,000; Easter Seals Family Respite Program: $40,000; American Heart Association stroke programs: $23,195; St. Therese Center, HIV food pantry: $20,000; Boulder City Lend A Hand Senior Transportation Program: $10,000; Boys & Girls Club of Henderson Healthy Habits Program: $7,500; and Helping Hands of Vegas Valley senior food pantry: $5,000. Panattoni Development has donated an 11-week lease to the City Mission of Las Vegas. For the second straight year, the mission will use Panattoni's donated space to store and assemble nonperishable items for holiday food drives. The organization hopes to collect and deliver more than 700 boxes of food to those in need throughout the holidays. The 4,008-square-foot donated property is at 3866 Civic Center Drive, Unit B, in Civic Center Corporate Park.
