The Dialogue We want to hear from you. The lack of qualified employees is a real stumbling block. We need to get rid of politicians who think it's a bad thing to be smart. — Scott_Bourne (Scott Bourne) We've repeated our own "we are On Joe Schoenmann's Nov. 25 vegasinc. com story about the potential of Strip casinos adding strippers ("If strip clubs add pools, will Strip casinos add strippers?): All it takes is one casino doing it and making a killing and the rest will follow suit. — RHG58 I think it would be a good idea for some of the resorts to add strip clubs. It would be better controlled because they have gaming licenses to worry about. I don't think we would be reading about some of the horror stories from the past in our current strip clubs. Time to let Las Vegas be what it claims to be — an adult playground! — vegaslee Let's see, most of the casinos already have "party pits" with girls in bikinis pole-dancing above blackjack players. Now a strip club gets a pool. Seems fair enough. — Kasidie (Scott Purcell) On Steve Green's Nov. 25 vegasinc.com story on Nevada's ranking for business ("Nevada ranks No. 36 on Forbes list of best states for business"): I moved my business to Nevada from Washington. It is much harder and more time consuming to figure out and obtain all the general business licenses you need in Nevada. That should be streamlined. And as for education, until | 12 DECEMBER 2011 | On Steve Green's Nov. 22 vegasinc.com story about a trademark issue involving the Las Vegas Hilton ("Las Vegas Hilton may be getting ready to change its name"): The best they could think of was Las Vegas Hotel and Casino? Who's in charge of marketing, for goodness sake? I understand that by keeping the initials the same they won't have to change a lot, but go big or go home. — zackiebinkies (Zackie Binkes) That's just lazy and weak! They ought to embrace their heritage and call themselves "the International." — mickeba low-tax, low-regulation, and business- friendly" mantra for so long that we cannot see the reality we have created: Most businesses consider us poison. Then we go back chanting our mantra — and do nothing about the real problems that block businesses from setting up here. — lericgoodman (Leric Goodman) On Richard N. Velotta's Nov. 21 vegasinc. com column on the DesertXpress project: ("Velotta: High-speed rail to Victorville, really?"): One huge, fundamental flaw in the "long term plan" for DesertXpress is the idea that a train line will be extended from Victorville westward to Lancaster or Palmdale. As a longtime rider of the L.A. region's Metrolink, which has a train line going to Lancaster/Palmdale, I wish to point out the following: There are no Metrolink trains to any part of Los Angeles' affluent west side. There are no Metrolink trains to the San Fernando Valley's affluent west side or to the Conejo Valley. Every single train line that Metrolink operates, from Orange County, Riverside County and the San Gabriel Valley, runs to downtown Los Angeles' Union Station. Las Vegas visitors would have to park and ride their local Metrolink train to Union Station, then take a very long walk, with their luggage, in many cases up and then down two long flights of stairs, to change trains to the Lancaster/ Palmdale line, which runs relatively infrequently. — Cynical Observer Many letters and emails fault the DesertXpress plans to only build as far as Victorville. But those last 60 miles to the L.A. basin could cost from three to four times as much as the rest of the system. I guess the naysayers have never noticed that Cajon Pass is full of railroad tracks and highways. Or that a tunnel under those mountains would pass through some serious fault lines, one of which is the San Andreas. And, what about the cost of a right-of-way in the basin itself? If we never start on better transportation somewhere, we will never have anything better, anywhere. The freeway has proved that its time has passed. — Jack Corrick, Boulder City *Exclusive poll conducted from 30 Nov to 6 Dec 2011 Pick 'Em Get smart Power tweets Overheard Done Deal Power Lunch The Numbers inc.com YOUR AD HERE Buy high Sell low VEGASINCmag 300,000 Executive class Read this!
