Until the race, the students will be running in small groups with four advisors to prepare for it. OCONOMOWOC — Third- and fourth-grade students of Summit Elementary are preparing to fol- low the Yellow Brick Road all with the help of four advisers. For the last three years, Jennifer Moylan, a fourth-grade teacher at Summit, and three other teachers have taken 65 to 70 kids for a run twice a week for 45 minutes at a time in preparation for the Yellow Brick Road Run on May 30. Moylan said the runs have been a great time, and she is surprised every year when some of her stu- dents place in the actual race. The students follow a beginner 5K program running in small groups with a teacher. The train- ing program contains a few option- al weekend runs as well. The running club welcomes all runners regardless of pace, and the teachers make adjustments on the fly to keep the group together. Moylan said the most important part of the group is the fact it shows children to stay healthy and be active. Placing in the actual race is just an extra incentive, she added. — Enterprise staff OCONOMOWOC — Stop in the main lobby of Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday to regis- ter for LakeWalk for Cancer and pick up a commemorative long-sleeved T-shirt. The registration fee is $25 through April 28. Team captains and individuals already registered are invited to stop by to pick up their T-shirts and drop off donations. Walks for Cancer yard signs and posters will be available, and samples of the Walks for Cancer 2015 incentive items will be on display. LakeWalk helps support specialized can- cer services, advanced technology and research in Oconomowoc. It is one of three walks held on May 2. In addition, RiverWalk for Cancer is held in Waukesha and Park- Walk for Cancer is in Mukwonago. In 2014, 6,600 walkers and 317 teams helped raise more than $500,000. Since 1997, $5.4 million has been raised through donations, registrations and corporate sponsorships. Funds from previous Walks have enabled ProHealth to make 3-D mammography avail- able at additional locations, develop a can- cer survivorship program and enroll almost 200 patients in clinical trials each year. Corporate partners supporting the 2015 Walks for Cancer include: B93.3, Citizens Bank, CL&D Graphics, Country Springs Hotel, Eppstein Uhen Architects, First Bank Financial Centre, GI Associates, Inpro, Ixonia Bank, J.H. His dad came along to help and when hospital staff inquired if his son had completed an advance directive, his father was uncertain. "The young man took a turn for the worse and wound up in the intensive care unit," said Hauser. "By that time it was too late to do the paperwork. We had to send the fami- ly to a lawyer and the court system had to get involved." Gov. Scott Walker has proclaimed today as Health Care Decisions Day in Wisconsin. According to the proclamation, the day's purpose is "to engage the public in advance care planning, a process of understanding, reflecting on and discussing future medical decisions." In honor of National Health Care Deci- sions Day, ProHealth Care is offering a vari- ety of free advance care planning programs to assist individuals with understanding and documenting their wishes for medical care when incapacitated. Personal one-on-one consultations are being offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Consulta- tions will be facilitated by staff members specially trained to assist with the comple- tion of advance directive documents. Partic- ipants are encouraged to bring a trusted family member or friend to the consulta- tion. One-hour appointments can be reserved by visiting prohealth- care.org/classes or calling 262-928-2745 ProHealth Care also is offering sessions of "What you Need to Know About Advance Care Planning." The classes are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The classes will be led by ProHealth Care physician Kelly Cooke or two experienced clinical social workers who will provide a step-by-step guide to under- standing, creating and using an advance directive. To read more about advance directives and their importance visit prohealth- care.org/advancedirectives.
