The annual All About Herbs lecture series continues April 14. The annual three-lecture series, sponsored by the Herb Society of America – Wisconsin Unit and Ozaukee Master Gardeners, kicked off March 19 with "Infusing Flavor: Using fresh and dried herbs to make oils, vinegars, marinades and unique seasonings," hosted by Ann Wegner LeFort of the Mindful Palate. On Tuesday, April 14, horticulturalist Steve Sandlin of Afterglow Farm in Port Washington will present "The Wonderful World of Garlic. The history and culture of the 'stinking rose and other allium plants.'" Sandlin has more than three decades of experience in horticulture and serves as a horticulturalist at Afterglow Farm in Port Washington. Afterglow Farm was originally built in 1929 as a summer residence by Joseph and Ilma Uihlein. The property has remained in the Uilhein family, and has grown from its original 35 acres to more than 300 acres, including a parcel that was formerly part of Squires Country Club. The lectures wrap up Tuesday, May 5, with a presentation on "Harvesting and Preserving Herbs from Your Garden" by Cedarburg's own Kathleen Awe. A longtime favorite presenter, Awe is a Master Gardener and Master Food Preserver. Like Wegner LeFort, Awe regularly shares her knowledge about gardening and preserving in local talks. The series is held at the Pavilion at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds, and all lectures start promptly at 7 p.m. Admission is $8 and pre- registration is not required. Herbal refreshments are served at all lectures, and are prepared by members of the Herb Society and Master Gardeners. For more information, check out www.ozaukeemastergarden ers.org.
