J e r s e y s h o r e • s p r i n g 2 0 1 5 52 Left: From year's past, a lone fisherman on the Ocean Grove Fishing Pier and Clubhouse enjoys a full moon rising. The pier is a well-known landmark that has been damaged or destroyed by numerous storms over the years, including a nor'easter in 1992, Hurricane Irene in 2011, and Superstorm Sandy in 2012. The end third of the pier and clubhouse, which extended over the ocean, was destroyed by Sandy and has not yet been rebuilt. Although there is no fishing today, there are plans to rebuild again, including a new clubhouse. The middle third of the pier was damaged and rebuilt, and visitors today can walk on the partially rebuilt pier, sit on the benches, and enjoy the view. Right: Beach roses bloom in spring and summer along the dunes of Ocean Grove. Below: The wide boardwalk provides lots of room for strolling, running, and biking, with plenty of benches to take a break and enjoy the view.
