Women in Rutherford and s u r r o u n d i n g counties are invited to once again live, love and laugh during the RHI Legacy F o u n d a t i o n ' s annual Women Together women's event. The 2015 event is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, from 10am until 1pm at the Performing Arts and Conference Center at Isothermal Community College. The purpose of Women Together, says Jill Miracle, executive director of the RHI Legacy Foundation, is to provide grant funds to support cancer prevention, treatment and support services in our county. Proceeds will be used for services such as mammograms for uninsured women and assistance for cancer patients who experience financial difficulties as a result of their treatment and recovery. "Every penny that we raise from this event stays within our county and provides health services for local women," Miracle explains. Guest speaker for the 2015 Women Together is Sharon Kiser. Kiser is an inspirational speaker and novelist who will speak about the important role that women play in the life of a community. Kiser has had more than 70 magazine articles published as well as a novel, "That End of Lilac Lane." She has been a keynote speaker for church and civic conferences and seminars. Rutherford county pianist David Roach will provide music before and during the brunch, which is being catered by Larkin's on the Lake. The "Men for Mammos" will return again this year to serve and entertain guests. The "Men for Mammos" will accept cash tips, which will also go toward the event proceeds. "Women Together has a theme of Living, Loving and Laughing," Miracle continued. "We know that our Men for Mammos will charm our ladies and handle the laughing part of the day. Our guest speaker will speak about the love that women bring to a community. Our attendees come because they know their support may save a life by providing a mammogram or a service to a cancer patient." Reservations for Women Together are $36; a table for eight may be reserved for $288 which represents one mammogram for an uninsured woman. Reservations may be made online at rhilegacyfoundation.org or by calling 828-286-5070. Roach began playing at age 5 on a chord organ he received for Christmas. "One afternoon when my dad came home from work, he noticed I was playing church hymns without any music," Roach said. "He immediately found a piano teacher for me, and I took piano from second grade through my senior year in high school." Roach took from several teachers, learning how to play gospel style and developing his ear for music. After the end of his private lessons, Roach continued to play and develop his own style, stating that sacred , classical, lite jazz and romantic contemporary are his favorite types of music. Roach served as Minister of Music/Worship Leader for Floyds Creek Baptist Church in Forest City from 2008 to 2013 and was church pianist from 2000 to 2008. He currently plays piano for the gospel group In His Glory and is the accompanist at Buford Street United Methodist Church in Gaffney, SC. Additionally, he teaches more than 30 piano students. Roach has 7 CD projects — "Favorite Hymns," "Elegance on Ivory," "An Ivory Christmas," "Meditation," "Time," "Simply Christmas" and "Southern Gospel Style." "Time" features a compilation of 10 piano instrumentals written by Roach; following the recording of this CD he was signed by Lamon Records, who hold a licensing and distribution contract for it. Roach and his wife of 26 years, Janet, have two children, Wesley and Ashley. I n s p i r a t i o n a l speaker and novelist Sharon Kiser promises those who attend the 2015 Women Together, presented by RHI Legacy Foundation, that they will leave not only having laughed, but with information they can take and use in life. "I'm excited about coming," Kiser says. "I want the women to look forward to having a good time, and to laugh and just take a different look at life. One of the things I'll share is the single astounding fact that can change your life." Kiser has had more than 700 magazine articles published as well as a novel, "That End of Lilac Lane." For six years she had a syndicated radio show, Moving Forward with Sharon Kiser, and is often the keynote speaker for church and civic conferences and seminars. Kiser writes and speaks of everyday life, and strives to remind people that God has a tailor-made, customized plan for each of us. "One of our greatest influences is the simple fact of realizing that life is lived in the every day, and how we do that to the best advantage," Kiser explains. "Some people walk in the rain, and others just get wet. I'll be talking a little bit about some of my experiences and how they have influenced me, as well as what I see and hear from listening to other women about their lives." Kiser hopes her speaking engagements provide women with an understanding that we all have the same goals, ambitions and source of problems. "At one engagement I had a woman say to me 'while you were speaking I had fun, and I realized I wanted to be a better person,'" Kiser explains. "That is really what I am all about - helping women move forward in their lives. Sometimes we get so stuck in our circumstances, and we can take small steps and make that forward movement." Events like Women Together give women an opportunity to know that other women are going through similar circumstances, Kiser adds. "It gives women a feeling of security, of knowing you're not alone. I hope that those who attend can laugh and have fun, but also walk away with something that they can say 'Wow, I can take that and use it in my life.'"
