By Christopher Bennett Special to The Freeman NEW BERLIN — Your mouth and money can meet at a New Berlin pub this Valentine's Day if you swear you will do any- thing to ensure your spouse or loved one always feels protected and safe. Pendulum Pub, 1959 S. 124th St. in New Berlin, is hosting one of the area's more intriguing Valentine's Day events on Feb. 14. "This is the date that the guys picked and saved, and they wanted to run a special for it being Valentine's Day," Pendu- lum Pub owner Lorrie Schroed- er said. In tandem with Freedom Firear ms, which is based in Eagle, Pendulum Pub is hosting a concealed carry training class. Tom Hein of Freedom Firearms is the instructor. "Some people might think it's a great idea; some people night not," Hein said. "In the training, a lot of guys are bringing along their wives. It makes sense that both people have a concealed carry permit if one does." Pendulum Pub's training ses- sion is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day. The cost is $150 for two people. It is normally $125 per person. Pendulum Pub's event comes with specific rules. Schroeder said alcohol will not be served during the event. Loaded weapons are not allowed in the class, aside from those on the person of any instructor. Participants in the class will not handle a firearm during the class. Schroeder said the class is informative in nature. "They're just teaching you the basic stuff that everyone should know," Schroeder said. "It's very infor mative. They teach how to hold and carry the firearm — nothing with reload- ing or loading or taking it apart. "This is telling you when you can carry, when you can use it, if you should use it in certain situ- ations, when you should approach someone — the laws and rules." There is not a test at the end of the class. Upon conclusion, par- ticipants possess the certifica- tion necessary to apply for a Wisconsin concealed carry per- mit. Once they receive a Wiscon- sin permit, they can apply for a Utah permit, which covers 34 additional states. Schroeder and Hein said response to the event is robust, and Schroeder said there is room for 50 participants. Con- tact Hein at 414-430-7617 or Schroeder at 262-782-8960 for more infor mation. Freedom Firear ms is on the web at http://freedomfirearmsnow.com. Other events For those couples not into firear ms, Fitness Together is offering workout specials. Fit- ness Together is in Brookfield at 18000 W. Bluemound Road, and at three additional locations in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and Delafield. One of Fitness Together's options is an eight-week PACK small-group personal training. The other is a one-one-one per- sonal training option that runs for one week, and is designed to jump-start one's fitness pro- gram. The eight-week-long PACK small-group personal training costs $397 for one person, or $697 for a couple. The one-week jump start program is $47. More infor- mation is available at http://fit- nesstogether.net/valentine. For those with children, the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in Milwaukee is hosting two events on Valentine's Day week- end. On Friday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the museum is hosting a Superhero Valentine's Party. Participants can meet some of their favorite superheroes in person, and are encouraged to dress in costume. Participants will also be the first to see the Brinn's brand- new literacy exhibit, Word Headquarters, which is spon- sored by Northwestern Mutual. Milwaukee Public Library staff will also be present. Children can mail valentines to their favorite superhero, and will receive a response in the mail. An astronomer will help search the night sky for Super- man's home planet of Krypton, and VIP Photography will take photos. Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. On Saturday, Feb. 14, Sendik's Food Markets is presenting a Valentine Ice Cream Social that is free with admission to the Brinn. Participants can build their own ice cream sundae and Valen- tine's craft, and the Milwaukee Public Library will be on hand to sign up those interested for a library card. Sendik's is running promotions that started Jan. 19 and allow for free admission to the Ice Cream Social. Check http://www.bbcmkids.org, the Web page of the Betty Brinn Chil- dren's Museum, for more infor- mation. For those in search of a decid- edly adult activity on Valentine's Day, the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" will be released in theaters on Feb. 13. The film, based on the best-sell- ing book of the same name, chronicles literature student Anastasia Steele and the compli- cated physical and emotional relationship she develops with billionaire Christian Grey. The film is scheduled to be shown at Brookfield's Majestic Cinema and New Berlin's Ridge Cinema. Both are Marcus The- atres, and show times and ticket prices are available at http://marcustheatres.com. Page 2A • Freeman Brookfield & Elm Grove 262-542-2500 Hours: M-F 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. 801 N.
