TV Media Weekly | January 31 - February 6, 2015 8 | Sunday afternoon it's getting its own spinoff TV show. "Lip Sync Battle" is coming to Spike on Thursday, April 2, with a celebrity host and prov- en format that leads to all sorts of laugh-out-loud hilarity. Rapper and star of "NCIS: Los Angeles" LL Cool J has signed on to host the new show, which is being produced by Fallon, John Krasinski ("The Office") and Stephen Merchant ("Extras"). Since its inception on "The Tonight Show," the lip syncing battles have been a huge fan favorite. Each "battle" pits a celebrity guest against Fallon in a pretend singing competi- tion, and the results are always downright hilarious. The TV show promises more of the same, and LL Cool J, as a successful musician himself, is clearly excited about hosting. "Like the rest of the world, I'm a big fan of these battles, but this show is going to bring it to a whole new level," he said in a news release. "I'm thrilled to be working with Jimmy Fallon, John Krasinski, Stephen Mer- chant and the entire team to host the show and can't wait for the fans at home to join in!" "Lip Sync Battle" premieres Thursday, April 2, on Spike. A comic book mystery: Ev- eryone loves a good mystery. One that currently has fans of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." buzzing is the announcement that Edward James Olmos will be joining the cast in a "mas- sive" role for the second half of the current season. Currently on its mid-season break, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which follows a group of gov- ernment agents protecting hu- manity in a world populated by Marvel's many superheroes, is due to return the the screen Tuesday, March 3. Adding Olmos to the cast is certainly a big deal, even if it's unknown exactly who — or what — he'll be playing. The two-time Golden Globe winner is certainly no stranger to whimsy. He starred in the ac- claimed science fiction film "Blade Runner" (1982) and headlined the 2004 relaunch of "Battlestar Galactica" — a se- ries that "Time" magazine list- ed as one of the 100 best TV shows of all time. In "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," he'll be playing someone named Robert Gonzales, a character that doesn't exist in Marvel's extensive stable of comic book characters. Wheth- er Gonzales will be a friendly ally or a villainous foe for the agents is a mystery that has fans of the show buzzing on the Internet. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." re- turns Tuesday, March 3, on ABC. 02/01 1 PM 1:30 2 PM 2:30 3 PM 3:30 4 PM 4:30 5 PM 5:30 6 PM 6:30 S1 S2 K WTTV 4 NCAA Basketball Michigan vs. Michigan State (L) PGA Golf Phoenix Open Final Round Site: TPC Scottsdale -- Scottsdale, Ariz.
