Corning 2015
12
The Corning Community Park on Toomes Avenue
near Fig Lane had its official opening in October
2013 with the completion of Phase I, which includ-
ed a skate and bike park, playground area, gazebo
and walking trails.
The construction of the 18-acre park, which
broke ground in April, 2013 has been split into two
phases.
The second phase of the park installed two soc-
cer fields, a playground area and picnic tables and
is just being completed in early 2015.
With the second phase of the park completed
Corning will have doubled its area of parkland.
The project is being funded by a $4.2 million
state grant that was awarded in 2010, and the first
phase cost about $1.9 million.
Brewer said the city was pleasantly surprised by
the award, and began acquiring property shortly
after. Trent Construction Inc. out of Gerber was
awarded the contract for construction of the park.
Development of the park was aided by the
Corning Skate and Bike Association, which had lob-
bied for a skate and bike park for more than 10
years.
