On Saturday January 3, 2015, Union Mills Learning Center is holding the 2nd Annual Box Creek Wilderness 5K/10K Run. This will be Rutherford County's fi rst run of the new year and one of the few 10K races offered in this area. The 10K trail boasts spectacular scenery, taking runners alongside the Second Broad River, the CSX railroad, and around the base of Rocky Face Mountain and the area now known as Box Creek Wilderness. 5K participants can walk or run the route that will begin at Union Mills Learning Center and take runners down part of Box Creek Road before returning to UMLC. Registration will begin at 9am and both races are scheduled to start at 10am at Union Mills Learning Center at, 6495 Hudlow Road, Union Mills, NC. Food will be served after the race while participants enjoy music, a warm fi re, and vendor surprises. Registration and more info is available online at www. unionmillslearningcenter. org. Pre-registration fee is $15 and applications must be submitted by December 23; race day is $20. Awards will be presented to overall male and female winners and the top male and female from each age group. All runners who pre-register will receive a tee-shirt.
