Macau is glitzy enough and growing fast, but for me it will never be Vegas. Las Vegas has a certain magic that I doubt could be duplicated anywhere else. I'm going back next summer and I can't wait. —Steve47 As with all foreign investments, these investments will only be as good as the goverment they're made by. —brien23 Macau is the new gaming heaven for people who live in Asia. Vegas is not. With or without our comps and amenities, people in Asia will gamble in Macau and Singapore in the future. MGM, Las Vegas Sands and Wynn understood the trend and built casinos overseas. That's the way to go. Unless Vegas properties react, the number of visitors flying into Vegas will keep going down. Tourists appreciate low-cost rooms without hidden resort fees. Visiting Las Vegas today, unfortunately, isn't like it used to be. —BorisR On Delen Goldberg's Story "Plaza Goes Uptown": I love what's happening with Downtown LV. This is a positive sign of forward momentum. We may be losing the battle with Macau in terms of dollars and big properties, but it's not always about that. The old, real Vegas is still the original and will never be duplicated. Sin City is coming back and not a moment too soon! —RomanMaximus Congratulations on a job well done, Plaza. Thank you for joining in the reinvention of all of downtown Las Vegas! —James_P_Reza I stayed at the Plaza this past weekend and was sadly disappointed. The rooms are seriously lacking. While it was clean and the furniture was nice and new, the room just looked incomplete. The linens were plain white, with no blankets or throw pillows. There was no hair dryer in the bathroom. While, yes, I know it's an older hotel and I did pay a low rate, I expected a lot more. —greenrock77 Hooray for the Plaza! I come to Vegas three times a year. The only thing that counts for a room is that it's comfortable. After all, all we use a room for is to sleep and to shower. I won't spend a lot on a room because that's just a waste of money. If I spend an extra thousand dollars on a room, that's less I have to spend to spend on the tables, restaurants and shows. I'll be back in about 10 days and I will certainly go see the new Plaza. —ernieb1202 The Answers: Tell Us What You Think HAS MACAU'S GROWTH IN POPULARITY AS A GAMBLING DESTINATION HURT LAS VEGAS? Las Vegas is struggling due to the current housing crisis. The world economy has hurt Las Vegas' gaming popularity — not Macau! The blame for today's economy lies with the lenders in banking, unemployment the rising cost of living. —Cathy Leach Not at all. Some people have the simplistic notion that Macau competes with Las Vegas, but nothing could be further from the truth. Macau is a daytrip market, much closer to the Chinese and Southeast Asian customers than Las Vegas. Macau is tapping demand Las Vegas can't meet because of time and distance. —Jeff Simpson | 3 OCTOBER 2011 | PEANUT GALLERY YOU SAY… W a n t t o b e i n T h e A n s w e r s s e c t i o n ?
