Page 8 Photo of the Year finalists Division 1 Record Dorian McDaniel Hendricks County Flyer (Avon) Division panel's comments: This image of the swimmer's celebration was a quick pick from the judge's panel as best in the group. The position of the photographer demonstrates his/hers hopefully anticipated result. I always appreciate a different point of view and ability to capture the moment at its peak. This is an example of a photo that tells a story without the necessary support of a cutline. Division 2 Fair (multiple picture group) Megan O'Bryan, Kevin Lilly & Sara Clifford Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Division panel's comments: The photographer who made the images from the Brown County 2014 4-H Fair did an out- standing job of turning a "routine" assignment into a collection of strong images that combined fine graphic composition and wonderful storytelling moments. The photographs are delight- ful. Division 3 Muffler Aaron Piper The Tribune (Seymour) Division panel's comments: Photographer did a nice job of capturing a moment and composing elements for an easy read of what the story is about. Over-arching muffler really ties photo together and adds a unique element. Division 4 Memorial Matt Fritz The LaPorte Herald-Argus Division panel's comments: A great moment and good composition make this photo the winner. The raw emotion on display by the boy on the left, the comforting he's receiving from his friend, and the memorials on the pole make this a great picture – it tells the story in a single shot. Division 6 Hairy ride Matt Detrich The Indianapolis Star Division panel's comments: The viewer is drawn into an image showing exuberant joy. You cannot look at this picture without smiling. Facial expressions are universal and under- stood around the world. Judges commented that if all the winners were laid on a table, this one stands out. It would be the magazine cover. Photo finalists Brown County's 2013 Fair Queen Jeanette Bube laughs as 2012 Fair Queen Danielle Ryan straightens her crown for her. Officer Jason Wynn with the Seymour Police Department makes marks on pavement at the scene of a three-vehicle wreck on the west side of Seymour. Two people were flown to hospitals in Indianapolis and Louisville. LaPorte High School students grieve as they stand near a memorial in front of the school for fellow student and foot- ball player Jake West. West collapsed at football practice and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Twins sisters Kourtney Lechner, 8, and Karly Lechner of Kokomo laugh while riding the Silver Streak at the Indiana State Fair. Plainfield's Mallory Adair reacts after setting the school record in the 200 individual melody during sectional finals. 1 2 3 4 6
