Both I-69 and GE stories were top-shelf. Second place Business Staff The Republic (Columbus) Comments: Outstanding presentation. Staff columnist would be preferable to outsiders. Third place Business Keith Roysdon The Star Press (Muncie) Comments: Overseas recruitment story asks questions often overlooked. Good mix of news you can use and historical perspective stories. Best Special Section/Category 28 First place Pink purpose Staff The Republic (Columbus) Comments: Yes, this was a section with "A Purpose." The staff pulled off a great look into the lives of cancer patients. Although these were "same-subject" stories, the personal journey each person took made them good reads despite the redundancy. This is a good section – one that the staff should be proud of. The photography and photo display helped separate this package from the others. Second place Everyday Heroes Staff The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: Nice clean design; good variety of subject matter; interesting read. Great portrait photos throughout. Great idea to have people nominated by their friends and neighbors. Third place Kokomo Strong Staff Kokomo Tribune Comments: Good publication about an unfortunate circum- stance. The photos were enhanced by poignant quotes mixed throughout the booklet – a nice touch. It would have been nice to read more about the disaster, but I suppose those who lived through it didn't need to be told again. Best Community Service/Category 29 First place Turmoil at City Hall Staff The Republic (Columbus) Comments: Excellent work. Coverage for six months, identify- ing problem and creating change/results. Second place Heartless for the Holidays? Staff Journal & Courier (Lafayette) Comments: Great coverage of this issue on a local level, inspiring involvement from the community, and excellent continuation of project. Third place Meth: The Menace of Madison County Jack Molitor The Herald Bulletin (Anderson) Comments: Nice work identifying such a horrible issue in your community, making it a public discussion and working with authorities on a continuing basis. Best Newspaper Design/Category 30 First place Staff The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: The color really made the front pages pop out. The graphics were engaging. Great use of knockouts. Division 5 Second place Staff The Star Press (Muncie) Comments: Really crisp design. The chalkboard graphic was great. The design really drew me in. Third place Patrick Caldwell & Allison Vondrell The Herald Bulletin (Anderson) Comments: Good graphics. A very approachable paper. This looks like a really good product, not just from a design aspect but also writing.
