BY LYDIA GONZÁLEZ D;ROSS On Wednesday, Novem- ber 12, 2014, Bishop Kelley students celebrate newest Americans after naturaliza- tion ceremony. Among them is long time resident of Tulsa, Angeles Jimenez. Jimenez was born in Acapulco Mexico. In 1997, Jimenez family came illega- lly to the United States and she was 16 at the time, and did not speak the English. Jimenez went to Jenks High School for a short period of time, as her aunt became gravely ill and had to take care of her. In 2001, she met Carlos, who also beca- me a United States Citizen in 2009. ey had married in 2001. Jimenez returned filed for residency in 2009, and returned to Mexico to file legally and waited for her residence filing to be appro- ved to return to her family in U.S. Jimenez waited three years to be eligible to file for citizenship. Jimenez is a wife, mother, homeowner and a business woman, doing very well. She never depended on any financial assistance from the government other than WIC, a nutritional program for her recent newborn. Jimenez states that she was taught not to depend on anyone but family for any type of support. Jime- nez stated " it is very nerve wrecking waiting for deci- sions made by the gover- nment and wait for years to hear something back, is unjust, especially when you don't have a criminal history from neither countries. " Jimenez further said, that "more and more fami- lies are coming to the Uni- ted States, to contribute and be part of a democracy that works." Jimenez said, "People need to be able to do what is right for their family and not be penalized for it." She mentioned that she was either tested or threate- ned by government of a false accusation, and they delayed her process because of false identification. As a prayer director for a church, she feels the pain of families going through the process, and she recom- mends that any person trying to obtain their citi- zenship, to be good citizens, file your taxes even if you are not getting a return, res- pect the law by having car insurance, until death do you part. Jimenez has been married now 12 years and has two little boys under the age of six. Now she says, she is dea- ling with bullying issues at the school. As a citizen, she will advocate for her children rights, continue her business and pursue a higher educa- tion, to give back to United States what she feels it is an honor to be a United States Citizen.
