Soap Updates Kelly Monaco stars in "General Hospital" By Jacqui Wiens TV Media In March 2012, A&E premiered the first season of a reality series about self-described rednecks and their family business. A meager 1.81 million viewers tuned in to watch the first episode of "Duck Dynasty," but America quickly fell in love with the Robertson clan, and the season finale brought in 2.56 million big-beard lovers. The series' popularity peaked in season 4, when it premiered with 11.77 million viewers, the most ever viewers to tune in to a cable nonfiction series telecast. While the numbers have dropped since that point, there is still huge de- mand for the show, which will be returning for a seventh season Wednesday, Nov. 19, on A&E. "Duck Dynasty" focuses on a family of hunters and entrepre- neurs, headed by patriarch Phil Robertson. While attending Louisi- ana Tech University, Phil played on the school's football team as a quarterback. He might have made it into the National Football League, attracting attention from the Washington Redskins, but he quit football instead, reportedly because the NFL's timing conflicted with duck hunting season. In 1973, Phil took his passion for hunting to a new level with the invention of a device that mimics a duck call and the subsequent founding of Duck Commander. Phil married Martha Kay Carro- way, who goes by Kay Robertson and is called "Miss Kay" by her family. The couple have four sons, each of whom have married and gone on to have children of their own. All but their eldest son, Pastor Alan, have been on the show along with their families since it pre- miered. Alan rejoined the family business and began appearing on "Duck Dynasty" in its fourth sea- son, although his wife and two daughters have not yet been fea- tured. The second of Phil and Kay's children is Jase, a goofball who is constantly distracting himself and others from their jobs at Duck Commander. While he loves a good prank, Jase can also be serious when required and is in charge of manufacturing at the company. Jase and his wife Missy have three children together: Reed, Cole and Mia. Their youngest child and only daughter, Mia, has undergone nu- merous surgeries to correct a cleft lip and palate she was born with. Willie, the third son, is the brains behind Duck Commander's recent success. He received a business-fo- cused bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and took the reins as CEO of Duck Commander. Under his watchful guidance, the family company has grown into a massively profitable business, selling about 600,000 duck calls annually in addition to the multimillion-dollar revenue generated by "Duck Dynasty" ad- vertising and merchandise. Willie's wife, Korrie, has known him since they were young chil- dren and now works alongside her husband as Duck Commander's of- fice manager. Their eldest child, Re- becca, was once an exchange stu- dent from Taiwan. While hosting her, Willie and Korrie officially ad- opted Rebecca and later adopted another child, Will. Their biological children are John Luke, Sadie and Bella. Sadie is a competitor on ABC's hit reality competition "Dancing with the Stars" and has expressed interest in adopting a child of her own in the future. Jules "Jep" is the final member of Phil and Kay's brood. In addition to working at the family company, Jep films the family's hunting trips and produces Duckmen DVDs. He and his wife, Jessica, have four chil- dren: Lily, Merritt (named after Phil's mother), Priscilla and River. On the other branch of the fami- ly tree is "Uncle Si." Phil's brother is a veteran of the Vietnam War and loves to tell a good story. While his wife, Christine, has avoided the cameras, Si is enthusiastic about the whole affair. They have two children, Trasa and Scott, both of whom have gone on to marry and have eight sons between them. While viewers will know the Robertson clan as bearded Louisi- ana rednecks, the family is origi- nally from Scotland. Season 7 will explore these roots as the entire family accompanies Willie on a business trip to the Highlands in the premiere. Aside from their bus tour, at least some of the family members will be attending the Highland Games, and Jase appar- ently even competes. After a long, duck-free summer, the magnificently bearded stars of "Duck Dynasty" are coming back to the airwaves for a new season of shenanigans.
