By KEVIN CARVER 828-248-1408 Rutherford Weekly - Page 21 Trojans Move T 3-0; rojans Move To 3-0; Cavs Pick Up Ground Game Cavs Pick Up Ground Game Chase and East Rutherford have to be decently happy with how the non-conference schedule has gone. Chase continued it's undefeated quest as they rolled past Bessemer City 35-18 last Friday. Tajae McMullens ran for 137-yards and put up a late touchdown that kept the Yellow Jackets out of distance in the victory. Looking back on records, Chase starts 3-0 for the fi rst time since 1998. Tyreece Gossett, who provided 98 yards rush- ing continues to average over 100 yards rushing a game (106.7 ypg) and the team put up another staggering 300-plus game in the rushing yards cat- egory. This Friday, they host fumble-prone Cherryville (1-2). Darerius Taylor will likely get the carries for Ironmen, who were trounced last week by Draughn, 42-0. They also had three turnovers on fumbles. Expect Carlos Watkins and Cody Green to have a fi eld day on defense. If they can put up early pressure on the Ironmen, they should be able to get to 4-0. Running back, Shane Pearson and fullback, Marquis Cash could also have a standout game apiece in this non-conference. East Rutherford grounded out some yards as well, while destroying North Gaston 55-28 last week. East rushed for over 420 yards including 151 from T.J Watkins and another 125 from Rahkim Franklin. Franklin had three rushing touchdowns, while Watkins picked up two more in the victory. It was no-contest by halftime as East led 48-13 at that point. East scored from about every avenue as Donald Wilkins scooped up a fumble on defense to score a touchdown. East Rutherford (2-1) heads east again as they play at West Lincoln on the road, Friday night. Dylan Smith is their workhorse in the backfi eld, but Evan Lopes scored the only touchdown in the Rebels win last week. Brought FAST WAAST WAY Brought to you by: to you by: Watkins, who had just four carries last week averaged 37.75 yards a tote last week. Don't be surprised if Justin Barksdale makes some noise too. Barksdale had over 75 yards rushing this past Friday. Considering how Polk County had easily han- dled its fi rst two opponents of the year, R-S Central lost a respectable 25-7 contest to the Wolverines on the road last Friday. Polk was averaging 38 points per game coming into battle. As past history has shown us, the two have waged some pretty intense and close battles on the gridiron. On the fi eld, the two schools have decided fi ve games by eight points or less in the last nine meetings. R-S Central (1-2) scored on it's opening drive of the game on a Taylor Ledbetter touchdown pass to Johnny Hunt, but that was all the offense Polk would allow. Central's defense also cut down a scoring op- portunity before half for Polk as they stayed within a 12-7 range, before falling in the second half. As for this Friday, the Hilltoppers will have go on the road for a second straight week, but face an undefeated Erwin (3-0) team. Denzel McKnight the Warriors stud, who had nearly 200 all-purpose yards in last weeks win against North Henderson. If R-S Central can have a repeat performance on defense (led by Justin Boykins and Jhari Miller) this Friday, it should a very competitive game. Thomas Jefferson (0-3) continues to put up points, just not enough. The Gryphons lost 48-17 to Asheville School last Friday. Travis Waldroup-Rodri- gues scored two touchdown receptions off the arm of Mason Martin in the loss. The Gryphons fi nd the road again as they play at Rosman (0-3) this Friday. Duran Scruggs is Ti- gers leading rusher as the Tigers have scored just 19 points combined in three games. Not Just Oil, Pennzoil 828-245-0434 293 S.
