NOVEMBER CALENDAR By Brian Huber Freeman Staff WAUKESHA — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has appoint- ed Mike Aprahamian of Brook- field to be the newest judge on the Waukesha County bench, filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Donald Hassin Jr. "Michael has a proven record as an out- standing attorney and will make an incredible judge," Walker said in the announcement. "I look forward to seeing the contributions his intellect, demeanor and commitment to the rule of law make to the Waukesha County bench." Aprahamian is a partner at Foley & Lardner where he has spent the past 20 years litigating a wide range of cases and been in charge of ethics training in the firm. He has tried cases before the United State Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Aprahamian will start on the bench Nov. 17. Mike Neimon, administrator of the Third Judicial District, which includes Waukesha County, said Aprahamian will be sworn in in chambers before beginning a mentoring pro- gram. The program is overseen by Judge Jen- nifer Dorow, but Aprahamian will be mentored by a number of judges and reserve judges in his first two weeks on the criminal bench, Nei- mon said. A date for a formal investiture has yet to be determined, Neimon said. Aprahamian said upon his appointment he wanted to start by mid-November in time to join a judicial conference in Appleton Nov. 19- 21. Aprahamian is a Brookfield native, a prod- uct of Brookfield East High School, whose mother, in-laws, and siblings, as well as his wife and children, live in Waukesha County. He and his wife, Michelle, have been married 25 years and have three children. Aprahamian said he's practiced in many areas of the law in his career, and has been active in his community as well, both within his church and with the Vision Forward Asso- ciation, an organization devoted to advocacy and action on issues related to visual impair- ment, where he serves as its president. Aprahamian is a 1989 graduate of the Uni- versity of Wisconsin-Madison and a 1992 grad- uate of Yale Law School, where he served as publishing editor of the Yale Law Journal. Aprahamian has been recognized as a "Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers, selected for inclu- sion in The Best Lawyers in America, and rated AV Preeminent, the highest performance rating by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rat- ings, Walker's announcement said. He also serves on the Wisconsin Judicial Commission as one of two attorneys charged with address- ing allegations of misconduct against sitting judges. Aprahamian said he appreciated the confi- dence placed in him by Walker and those involved in his recommendation. "I told the governor when he asked me to serve I am going to make sure that confidence is well-placed not only for him but the citizens of Waukesha," he said. "It will be my privilege to serve."
