They are childhood friends who have followed each other from Massa- chusetts, to Florida and now to Ellenboro and Bostic. Their names are Donna, Iris, Karen and Patti. At a sewing retreat they came up with the idea of making a quilt dedicated to all servicemen. When they came home the idea took hold and before you know it "The Stitching Sisters" were off and sewing! They found a pattern and each took turns creating what's now become "a traveling quilt" honoring the men and women who... have served... are serving... will serve... are injured... have fallen... are MIA! The thrust of what they want to do is sewn on the bottom right of the quilt. "We will not forget you." This beautiful work of art by these gals, is being offered to be signed. Once signed locally it will be shipped to Florida where it will start it's journey throughout all fi fty states. It will, after going to Hawaii and Alaska, be returned to Ellenboro and these dedicated, patriotic band of ladies. When asked as to why they did it, the answer was very simple. "We hope to raise the spirits!" These four girls, Karen Willette, Iris Waite, Donna Zobrist and Patti Pollock are a rare breed. There is nothing that they either haven't done or won't do! Karen and Donna are twin sisters. They say they are always together. Now, this six foot by six foot quilt is about to be launched on a fi fty state tour. Donna says it's all about "pride". Iris feels "it's a wonderful way to assure that our boys and girls will not be forgotten." Patti adds that it's a great way to "come together and show support." Karen sums it up very well when she said that it was a great way to convert "words into action!" Life’s hard! God heals! We all have hurts, habits and hang-ups. You are part of what makes this such a great country! "Ruff'ton Live" Makes Its Debut! by M. A. Andrews maandrews@rutherfordweekly.com The rain threatened to cancel the inaugural presentation of "Ruff'ton Live!". The new program designed to bring out folks in an informal atmo- sphere for food, fun and "dancing in the street!" The band featured fi rst to kick off the program was "Tater" who ended up playing at the top of the courthouse steps to protect them from the rain. The effect was awesome. The music from "Tater" bounced off the court- house walls and made it a resounding success. Folks came out and brought their lawn chairs, while other met friends and mixed it up socially at the "Second Street Cafe" on the left side of the Courthouse. It all worked out to the pleasure of those who came. The addition of the children's play area was a hit and a nice family touch. The event was sponsored by Rutherford Town Revitalization and Fox Distributing Company. It looks like the newest addition to Rutherfordton family fun is going to be looked forward to at "Ruff'ton Live!" Bands, music, a cafe offering good things to eat and drink and also "dancing in the street!"
