Diversity Rules Magazine Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf? A Film By Anna Margarita Albelo New York’s Project Involve, IFP’s No Borders, and recently spotlighted on IndieWire.com as a film- maker “to watch.” Cuban-American, Anna Margarita Albelo is an award- winning filmmaker, journalist and cul- tural activist. In just the past 5 years, she has been an Honoree of the Tribeca Film Festival’s All Access program for Nar- ratives, as well as, Tribeca’s On Track program, the Miami International Film Festival’s Encuen- tros Program, IFP Her work encompasses narrative, documentary and experimental film, screened in over 40 film festivals all over the world. Her short fiction film, “The Turkey” (French title: La Dinde) was selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s CRITIC’S WEEK, 2008 and her latest feature documentary, HOOTERS! won the Centerpiece Award at the Queer Black Cinema Film Festival of Harlem in 2010. Anna has also been a longtime collabora- tor of French Television channel, Canal Plus for whom she has written and directed several original documentaries on gay and lesbian culture explor- ing Cuba, Palm Springs and Los Angeles She currently lives in Los Angeles and is in pre- production of her feature film debut, Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?” Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?’ is the story of a Cuban-American lesbian who has been hid- ing from relationships in her film career. Often auto-biographical, the film recounts the tale of, ANNA and her catalyzing 40th birthday: the day she sets about getting the girl AND making the film that will change her life! Inspired by the incredible classic, ‘Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf?’ starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Anna finds herself lost and disheartened but love, or shall I say, the promise of love, inspires her to embark on creating an all-female version of the film. The day after her fortieth birthday, Anna comes Eleven to the conclusion that it’s time for the madness to stop. She lives in her friend’s back yard tool shed; her career as a filmmaker isn’t paying her bills and worst of all it’s been ten years since she’s had a girlfriend. A hardscrabble life that seemed charming and adventurous in her twenties seems desperate and dire in middle age. She was once an adventurous jet setter & queen of night. Most move on from such a life- style before they hit 40, but not Anna. That’s why something has to change…And soon. The film will feature a diverse and extremely talented cast: Guinevere Turner (L Word, American Psycho), Tammy Lynn Michaels (Popular, DEBS), Whitney Mixter (The Real L Word), Bridget McManus (McManusland), Joel Michaely (Rules of Attraction), Anna Margarita Albelo (Hooters, A Lez in Wonder- land), and Hen Yanni (Israel) already signed on to star. “Anna Margarita Albelo is a filmmaker to watch!” Indiewire.com, 2011 “Anna Margarita Albelo is probably one of the most insightful, provocative and hilarious filmmakers of our day... “ Velvet Park, 2010 “HOOTERS! is Riveting— a tribute to Albelo’s skill in fostering trust and inti- macy that impels her subjects to give her no-holds-barred access.” LA Weekly, 2010 www.vaginawolf.com A Co-Production between: SteakHaus Productions www.steakhaus.com films@steakhaus.com www.burningbraproductions.com ctreibel@gmail.com Burning Bra Productions
