While the team managed an early season 28-16 win against Granite Hills, they suffered a four game skid until their next victory. The Cardinals managed their second and third wins against East Sierra League opponents, McFarland and Orange Cove although they lost their final two games of the season. Orosi suffered some early season setbacks last year losing their quarterback and running backs to injury, and it was simply too severe of a loss to overcome. 2014 PREvIEw Orosi has managed to maintain a lot of team speed both offensively and defen- sively. While the Cardinals are assuredly young with at least two sophomore start- ers they are hoping to rely on the teams' quickness to defeat opponents. Although that is not their only option as they have added some size to their offensive line. OffENSE Cardinal's fans can ex- pect a deceiving offensive look this year as Orosi is looking to implement the Wing-T offense designed to misdirect opposing defenses. Helped by an improved offensive line this run oriented attack should be effective against smaller defenses. Head coach Brian Ruiz feels confident in his team's ability to execute the offense not only because of his teams speed, but also because of the size of a couple fullbacks who can play smash mouth football. DEfENSE The Cardinals have a large portion of their de- fensive starters returning this year. Only one mem- ber of the Orosi secondary needs to be replaced. In addition Orosi will benefit from a completely intact linebacker corps that can build off of the experi- ence of last year. While the defense may lack size the Cardinals coaches believe their team speed can make up the difference by getting to the ball faster. PREDICtION While the Cardinals can improve from last years struggles with added size on offense, and added speed on defense, Orosi lacks the depth required to battle all the way through the season. If the Cardinals remain healthy they will be able to place in the middle of the pack in the East Sierra League.
