Marcus Nunez 60 • MKP, INC. 2013 REvIEw The 2013 Lindsay Car- dinals had a great season last year. The Cardinals finished the season with a 10-2 record and a 5-0 East Sequoia League record, but in the big picture of things the Cardinals fell just one game short or reaching their ultimate goal of playing for a Valley Championship. The Cardinals did say good bye to several talented players like Jacob Hernan- dez, Alex Lara, Gavin Man and big man Chris Misaale- fua, who is now playing at the University of El Paso Texas (UTEP), just to name a few. Last season the Cardinals picked up an impressive 30- 27 victory over a very tough Central Valley Christian team. The Cardinals only loss during the regular season was against the Farmersville Aztecs. Lindsay's second loss of the season came at the hands of Liberty Madera Ranchos in the Semi-Finals of the Division V Valley Play- offs as the Cardinals fell 19- 10 to end their season. 2014 PREvIEw Heading into this season, the Cardinals have a lot to prove and have a lot on the line this year. Not only do the Cardinals have a 10 game winning streak when it comes to league play but they also want to be able to prove they can get past the Semi-Finals. This year's team will be young and the coaching staff believes this group of stu- dent athletes will have things dialed in when the season starts and should make a se- rious run at making it 15-0 in East Sequoia League play. OffENSE This year's team will be young and the coaching staff believes this group of student athletes will have things dialed in when the season starts and should make a serious run at making it 15-0 in East Sequoia League play. This year's offense has some holes to fill after the departure of several starters to graduation, but Cardinals head coach Jesse Lira feels this group of athletes can do just that. One thing that has given Lira confidence is how RJ Rueda has been picking up the game so quickly after being brought up to varsity late last season. DEfENSE With only two starters from last year's team returning, Lira and his staff have their work cut out for them to find nine more starters. Guys who played a lot last year but did not start will get their chances early to prove they can be more than just guys to come off the bench to give starters a quick breather. PREDICtION October 24 looks right now to be the game that will determine who will be ESL champions. The Cardinals may not have enough to get past the Tigers this year and fall to second place in league.
