2013 Review The Monache Marauders had a rough season last year, only managing a 2-8 overall record. Offensively the Maraud- ers struggled due to inex- perience on the offensive line and lack of weapons on the outside. Monache lacked experi- ence on the defensive side of the ball as well leading to a let up of big plays. The Marauders first victory of the year didn't come until week six, defeating Reedley on the road by a seven point margin. In a tough East Yosem- ite League Monache was only able to manage a 1-4 record defeating Delano 24-14 for their second and final victory on the year. 2014 PReview Monache believes they have ironed out some of the problems that plagued them last year. The team is looking to benefit from returners ex- perience both offensively and defensively. Strong showings in off season passing tourna- ments indicate that more experience is beginning to pay off. Having only two victories to their name last sea- son both the players and coaches are hungry to fix what was wrong last year. Offense Offensively, the Maraud- ers have been able to de- velop some speed on the outside forcing defenses to cover the entire field instead of becoming one dimensional. As part of the this plan, the Maraud- ers want to focus on protecting their quarterback and devise ways to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers. Junior quarter- back Chris Ste- venton should become a large contributing fac- tor, if the line can keep him upright. The hope is that a stronger passing game will open up holes in the middle for runs and then play action passes. Defense This year Monache be- lieves that they are much faster on defense, espe- cially in the secondary. While some of the play- ers are less experienced, this years' squad is very athletic and can run much faster which plays to the strength of their defensive strategy. PReDictiOn While the Monache Ma- rauders have improved in experience and speed, there is little to indicate that they can climb to the top of the EYL after sporting a 2-8 record last season.
