If the answer is yes, then the Council on Aging Telephone Reassurance Program might be for you. This program is especially ben- eficial for seniors age 60 and above that need for someone to make contact with them. The service can be setup to meet the needs of the senior. On these days a volunteer will call to make sure that you are up and okay. If the volunteer does not get an answer they will notify a contact person who will check on you. If you are interested in this program, or being a volunteer to make calls with the Telephone Reassurance Program please call Kathy at 704-482-3488. Bingo is one of our biggest fundraisers. We are in desperate need for volunteers to help with bingo on Monday nights. If you could help us just one Monday night a month that would be a great help. Our doors for bingo open at 5:30pm. Our early bingo begins @ 5:45pm – 7:00pm & regular bingo begins at 7:00pm – 9:30pm. We need the following: Volunteers for the floor (to sell extra cards if anyone wants one), I need check runners, kitchen help and early bingo help. If you would be interested in volunteering, please contact Mary Hamrick @ (704)484- 5493. Ladies Support After the death or divorce of a spouse, one deals not only with personal bereavement, but also with new dilemmas in almost every aspect of life. Employment, financial and legal affairs, housing arrangements, and even meal prepara- tion are all situations that present new challenges. In handling these altered circumstances, many people around the country are finding an important source of support and guidance in voluntary support programs, which put them in touch with others who have themselves, experienced similar situations. The Cleveland County Council on Aging/Senior Center has a Ladies Support Group for ladies 55 years or better. This group provides a variety of programs that deal with such topics as caring for your car, depression, cooking for one, self-protection and health infor- mation. It is a great way to learn new things and socialize with people in your community. Coping with life after the death or divorce of a loved one becomes even more difficult as one realizes and deals with unfamiliar activities and loneliness. We welcome you to come and experience the camaraderie with this wonderful group of ladies. They meet monthly for educational, social and recreation events. The Ladies Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Senior Center at 11:30 for lunch and a program. For further information please call Kathy Cobb at the Senior Center at 704-482-3488. Keep Your Brain Young By Lending A Hand! People who volunteer are less likely to mentally slow down as they age, according to new research. Feeling that your life has purpose boosts immune function and blood vessel health, protecting the brain! The Senior Center could use your help in the following areas: Volunteers are needed for the Neal Senior Center. * Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to assist with our homebound seniors getting a meal. We need your help in preparing, packaging, and delivering meals. *Volunteers at the front desk to help greet participants as they enter and help answer the phone. *Volunteers in the Consignment Shop to help oversee sales, provide great customer ser- vice, and receive and price new merchandise. *Volunteers in the Gift Shop to welcome and greet customers and to sell merchandise. *Volunteers in the kitchen to assist with preparing hotdogs and other concessions. *Volunteers for Monday Night BINGO to help with floor sales. The Senior Center offers many classes and activities to keep your brain young. Please come by and check us out. You will be surprised at the many opportunities available to keep your brain young! To volunteer please call Lori Livingston (704) 482-3488. Do you enjoy good food and great fellowship? If so, you are invited to join the Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center Dine Around Club for seniors age 55 and better.
