GET PAID FOR EVERY POUND By Andy Heuring Three people were ar- rested for drunken driving last week, one after police were notified that the driv- er was all over the road and had crashed into a ditch off Cato-Winslow Road at about 1 a.m. Sunday. Jessica Lynn Pelt, 33, of 1796 Barnes Ln., Win- slow, was arrested on pre- liminary charges of oper- ating a vehicle while intox- icated; driving while sus- pended and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction in the last five years. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Buck Seger said central dispatch received a report of an intoxicated driver all of the road driv- ing south on Cato-Winslow Rd., then the caller called back and said the vehicle had crashed into a ditch. Deputy Seger said he arrived and found a 2003 Chevrolet off the east side of the road facing south with the driver's side door open and Pelt standing be- hind the car. Deputy Seger said Pelt told him she was okay and denied she had been drinking. Deputy Seger said he smelled alcohol while talking with her. When he asked her to step into the road for field sobriety tests, she fell while trying to walk to the road. She failed one test and a portable breath test at more than twice the legal limit. Then during anoth- er test, Deputy Seger said she almost fell down and he discontinued the tests. Pelt refused a chemical test, according to Deputy Seger and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where she was arrested on pre- liminary charges of oper- ating a vehicle while intox- icated (refusal), operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person and driving while suspended. A Jasper man was arrest- ed after he failed to signal his turn at the Otwell Junc- tion early Saturday morn- ing. Jordan Keith-Ray Powell, 23, of 8623 W. SR 56, Jas- per, was stopped at about 1 a.m. by Indiana State Trooper John Davis after he failed to signal his turn from Highway 257 as he turned onto Highway 56. Trooper Davis said Powell failed field sobri- ety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.18 per- cent for blood alcohol con- tent. The legal limit in In- diana is 0.08 percent. Powell was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction in the last five years. A Petersburg man was arrested after police re- ceived a 911 call of a driver all over the road on High- way 61 at about 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 30. Everett Eugene Sutt, 56, of 513 S. Seventh St., was arrested by Trooper Davis. Davis said Conserva- tion Officer Lt. Duane En- glert located Everett and, after seeing him drive left of center three times, at- tempted to stop him by turning on his emergency lights on "Half-mile Hill," but Sutt didn't stop for al- most .75 of a mile. Trooper Davis said he assisted, and Sutt failed field sobriety tests and tested high on a portable breath test. Because of the high reading, Trooper Davis said he transported Sutt to the Daviess Com- munity Hospital, where he tested 0.34 for blood alco- hol content, more than four times the legal limit. The Pike County Jail will not accept anyone with a BAC of more than 0.25 percent without med- ical clearance. Trooper Davis said once Sutt was given medical clearance, he was transported to the Pike County Jail. He was arrested on a preliminary charge of op- erating a vehicle while in- toxicated.
