Rutherford Weekly's Favorite with M.A. ANDREWS Let's get started with a good recipe from JOHANNA MORRISON for her Crock Pot Meal. Great for a sum- mer recipe when it's so hot. Put together and plug it in and walk away. Can it get any better than that? 4 pounds stew beef , 2 tablespoons salt, 1 teaspoon pepper, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. 1 cup water, 4 small potatoes cut in half, 4 medium car- rots, cut in fourths, 4 small onions or 1 large cut in fourths. Place all ingredients in crock pot. Start on high for 1 hour then switch to low for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until meat is tender. Tip: I add a quarter cup of wine to this recipe or if you have no wine add quarter cup of vinegar. It works. Off my special cookbook shelf comes the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church "That We May Live" cookbook. It's chock full of good and tasty recipes. Crock Pot Meal That's it for this week. I'm trying to keep the kitchen on the cool side for you. Enjoy and "get in the kitchen and show the love". If you don't have a husband, you can still make this recipe. LEESA EARLEY gave it the name. Husband's Delight! 2 pounds ground beef (I used chuck), 1 small onion chopped, 1 jar Ragu sauce, 8 ounces sour cream, 4 ounces cream cheese, 2 cups moz- zarella cheese, 8 ounces egg noodles. Brown beef and onion together then add Ragu. Cook noodles. Mix together sour cream and cream cheese. Layer sauce, half of noodles, cheese mixture half of moz- zarella cheese, remaining noodles, rest of sauce. Cover, tented with foil. Bake at 400º for 40 minutes. Husband's Delight MAIN MAIN JOYCE KIMBRELL offers a recipe that is budget minded and very good. Tuna! Here is her recipe for Tuna Casserole. 1 envelope golden onion soup mix, 1 1/2 cups milk, 10 ounces frozen peas and carrots, thawed, 8 ounces medium egg noodles, cooked and drained, 6 1/2 ounces tuna, drained and flaked, 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Preheat oven to 350º. In large bowl, blend soup mix with milk; stir in thawed peas and carrots cooked noodles and tuna. Put into a greased casserole dish, top with cheese. Bake 20 minutes or until bubbly. Easy and a great way to save money. Try this and you will like it. Tuna Casserole MAIN Street Talk Have You Ever Considered Moving To Another Country? Yes, I've thought about it multiple times. Maybe England. I think I'd like the atmosphere there. No. Never! I've been all over Europe in World War II. I like our country better. Yes. It would probably be Africa. It's rich in minerals and beautiful. No. I'm too broke to go anywhere. I like our country because it's the best! No, not really. I like it here because it's peaceful. FOR SALE The hottest day in recorded history is July 10, 1913, when temperatures soared to 134 F at Furnace Creek, Calif. in the area known as Death Val- ley. Death Valley is situated between a collection of high and steep moun- tain ranges in the Mojave Desert, and that positioning, coupled with the low elevation of Death Valley, which is 282 feet below sea level in certain places, assures high temperatures throughout much of the year. In July of 1913, the area was enduring an especially scorching heat wave, as tem- peratures exceeded 125 F for more than a week straight. By July 10, the temperature peaked at 134 F, a temperature that was measured at a weather observation post at Greenland Ranch. Interestingly enough, the high for the day was just one degree cooler than the thermometer at Greenland Ranch was capable of measuring. Though Death Valley still holds the dis- tinction it earned on that especially hot day in July of 1913, for much of the 101 years since it was not offi ciallyrecognized as the record holder thanks to an erroneous report of a 136 F degree day in Libya in 1922. That error, which was blamed on the inexperience of the weather observer and outdated equip- ment, was eventually corrected by the World Meteorological Organization in 2012.
