THOMSON REUTERS St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine A member of CHW Sports Medicine Tehama County loves youth sports and so does St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. From middle school to high school, youth club sports to organized adult sports, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Sports Medicine Program supports the athletes of our community. Lead my medical director, Riico Dotson, M.D., the St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine Program is one of collaboration and service, focused on injury prevention, treatment and education. Dr. Dotson is a Stanford University graduate who has been in practice in Red Bluff for over 7 years and is most recently the St. Elizabeth Physician of the Year. During his career, he has dedicated his time and energy to sports medicine throughout Tehama and Shasta Counties. Dr. Dotson received his medical education and orthopaedic training at the Mayo Clinic and specialized in sports medicine at the University of Connecticut. He is an experienced orthopedic surgeon who has served as the team physician for women’s men’s and youth sports including football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse and wrestling at the recreational, youth, high school collegiate and professional levels. When it comes to sports medicine, the St. Elizabeth Team has you covered! Medical Director, Riico Dotson, MD explains; “Physical therapy is integral and often critical in the success of the patient’s clinical outcome. I frequently contact the therapists treating my patients to exchange ideas and share information. The patient benefits when the physical therapists and physicians work together as a team.” That is why the St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine program is supported by Physical Therapy and Wellness Center of Red Bluff. Led by owner and founder, Ed Stroman, PT, ATC, CSCS, Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers a key component to a high functioning sports medicine team. “What makes physical therapists unique is that we are trained to look at the problem from a functional perspective rather than a structural one,” explains Ed. “Many times, if we address the dysfunction, we can bring about resolution of symptoms.” The St. Elizabeth Sports Medicine Program supports athletic programs and promotes injury prevention throughout the county. Often partnering with youth sports organizations and the Tehama County Department of Education, and a recent sponsor of the Youth Athlete of the Year program, the St. E’s Sports Medicine team donates countless hours on and off the field providing physical therapy, athletic training, orthopedic field coverage, CPR/First Aid training, sports team sponsorships and injury prevention clinics to name a few. In addition to the traditional sports, the St. E’s Sports Medicine team can be seen ringside at various western heritage events such as the Red Bluff Round Up and the Professional Bull Riders when they come to town. We are proud to sponsor and promote an active and healthy lifestyle in Tehama County.
