Modern art exhibits to open Two new exhibits will open at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown starting Saturday, May 28. “Prendergast to Pollock: American Modernism from the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute” will feature 35 key works from major artists from the first half of the 20th cen- tury, includ- ing Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. Organized in three thematic sections — landscapes, figure studies and still life the man, his process and his art. About 40 works will be on display, including early watercolors, etchings, draw- ings and major oil paintings. The show is the first major exhibition of Hopper’s works in central New York. Blues band to perform The Johnny Monster Band will perform at 10 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Au- tumn Cafe on Main Street in Oneonta. The group describes itself as a rock and blues band from New Paltz. Known for its fast take on blues and rock, the group de- livers a gut-wrenching style. With monster guitar work and a tight rhythm section, the band focuses mainly on an older sound, throwing in its spin to the old blues. Cover is $5. Wailers, Pink Floyd Contributed ‘Number 34,’ Jackson Pollock, enamel on paper, 1949. — the exhibition displays the radical transformation of art in the early 20th-century. The display also will reference 19th-century traditions that the artworks were built upon. With the late Bob Marley, the group has sold more than 250 mil- lion albums worldwide. In England alone, the band has notched more than 20 chart hits, includ- ing seven ers have worked with or performed with Sting, the Fu- gees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana and Alpha Blondy, as well as raggae legends Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Burning Spear. The Wailers, called the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition, have played to an estimated 24 million people worldwide. They were the first reggae band to tour new territories, including Africa and the Far East. Admission is $21.50 in advance and $23 the day of the concert.
