Charay, a junior infi elder currently is currently second on the team with a .290 batting average and is also second on the team in RBI's with 28. He has been an everyday starter his whole collegiate career and last year was named First-Team All-MVC. "Eric is a big kid that has tremendous gap to gap power," commented Owls Manager Andrew Ciencin, "Defensively he has outstanding range going up the middle." Junior utility player Dylan Becker has a .255 batting average and leads the team in doubles (11) and stolen bases (10). "Dylan will be a great utility player, that can play mostly anywhere," stated Ciencin, "He has shown some pop offensively in past summer leagues, so we look forward to having him in the line-up." Hawkins, a junior infi elder has been part of Team Canada and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 42nd round prior to attending Missouri State. He is the starting shortstop for the Bears. "Joey is going to bring a lot of excitement to our ball club. He will give 100% every night." commented Ciencin. "He is a versatile SS that can really play defense." The fi nal Bear on the roster will be Sophomore outfi elder Matt Dezort. Dezort joins the Owls currently hitting .288 with 18 RBI'S and 5 stolen bases over 11 starts spending most of his time in left fi eld. "Matt will most likely play a corner outfi eld spot. He has very good speed and is a threat on the base paths," stated Ciencin. "Matt will be one of the hardest workers on this team." The Owls will begin the 2014 season at home on May 27th as they take on Columbia. Fans can purchase season tickets, ½ season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls offi ce at 828-245-0000. Single game tickets will go on sale in early May. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refi ne their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
