Every 2 seconds someone in the US needs a blood transfusion! The Rutherford Extension Center has received a Nourishing North Carolina grant that has enabled us to provide an area for those who would like to have a garden this year. During the last few months Extension Master Gardener Volunteers have been constructing (6), 4 foot by 12 foot raised plant beds. The plant beds are now completed and are now ready for area gardeners to get growing! The site is located behind the Rutherford County Health Department building and next to the Extension Demonstration & Teaching Gardens. Gardeners will have use of the raised bed garden for the season. For those interested in obtaining a planting bed, please contact the Rutherford Extension Center to obtain an application. There will be a $25 rental fee for the use of the raised bed for the season. At the close of the growing season, a portion of the fee ($10) will returned providing the plant bed is weed-free and ready for next year. Applications will be taken June 1, 2014.
